Members of Civil Air Patrol's Geospatial Team are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Response Geospatial Office on damage assessment efforts after Hurricane Helene. More than 100 CAP members from 31 wings devoted more than 2,000 volunteer hours to assisting FEMA in locating and evaluating damage to homes and businesses. Working with teams from FEMA, the contractor Dewberry, and the National-Geospatial Intelligence Agency, CAP volunteers have completed more than 90,000 assessments so far and identified more than 40,000 damaged structures across six states that have been declared major disaster areas. #CivilAirPatrol #CAPMission

A great honor for our Commander ??????

This just in from First Air Force: Lt. Gen. Steven Nordhaus, Commander of the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Region (CONR)-First Air Force (U.S. Air Forces Northern and U.S. Air Forces Space), visited the Air Force Civil Engineering Academy on Tyndall Air Force Base today. There, 40 Civil Air Patrol cadets from around the country (ages 15-18) were learning about various disciplines within the engineering career field, to include heavy equipment management, map making, explosive ordnance disposal, emergency management, water purification, and runway lighting. The week-long annual event is taught by the 823rd Red Horse Squadron at the Silver Flag Complex. Additionally, the cadets receive instruction on civilian careers in USAF Civil Engineer and gain practical experience reading blueprints and using a mechanics ruler. During his address to the cadets, Nordhaus emphasized the important mission of the Civil Air Patrol and its daily connection to the mission at CONR-1AF (AFNORTH & AFSPACE).
