Did you know CAP OC was established 60 years ago? In 1965, the “Community Development Council” was formed - later renamed to Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC). CAP OC is one of 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAA) established throughout the country to address poverty at a local level. While federally designated, we remain nimble and community-driven, taking a holistic approach to tackle the root causes of poverty. Our first programs included essential services and resources including HeadStart preschool for low-income children, a Neighborhood Youth Corps to facilitate workforce development, legal aid for Orange County family, and Dial-a-Friend offering direct lines of support for local seniors. Follow along as we share highlights from CAP OC's history all year long! We are excited to share that our Senior Food Box Program Manager Shirley Bojorquez was recently appointed to the National Commodity Supplemental Food Program Association (NCSFPA) as their new Vice President! In this role, Shirley will work with state and local agencies to advocate for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) nationwide. CSFP, which provides nutritious food packages to low-income seniors to improve health outcomes, is a core program of the OC Food Bank serving 25,000 seniors every month across Orange County, Los Angeles County, and Riverside County. Just last year we served over 10 million pounds of food to local seniors to reduce food insecurity and increase access to nutritious food items. Join us in congratulating Shirley on her recent appointment and the tremendous work her team does to support the efforts of the OC Food Bank! #Congratulations #CSFP #SeniorGroceries #FoodInsecurity #AddressingImmediateNeeds #PovertyEndsHere
