We're proud that our Blue Cottage of CannonDesign team played a pivotal role in shaping Nebraska Medicine and UNMC’s Innovation Design Unit (IDU), a groundbreaking active inpatient care environment designed to pilot and refine new models of care. ? Opened in January 2025, the IDU has quickly become a catalyst for care model innovation. Spanning 20,000 square feet of active patient care space, it features 17 highly adaptable patient rooms designed to trial equipment and care delivery methods in real-time, along with 4,500 square feet dedicated to testing and evaluating new healthcare solutions. ? Current projects include piloting virtual nursing within team-based models, implementing interactive patient experience platforms, deploying real-time location systems and exploring innovations in furniture, medical equipment and staff respite. ? ?? Check out this insightful conversation between our Director of Sustainability Eric Corey Freed, RA, LEED Fellow and Josh Dorfman on the Supercool podcast, where they talk about how our bold and ambitious sustainability projects become a reality:
CEO & Host @ Supercool: Real-World Climate Solutions // Co-founder @ Plantd: Carbon-Negative Building Materials
How do we make every building a green building? Ask?Eric Corey Freed, RA, LEED Fellow, and Director of Sustainability at CannonDesign, and he'll say it takes three mindset shifts. 1. Shift from scarcity to abundance. 2. Stop waiting to be asked. 3. Don't sell sustainability. Instead, sell outcomes and benefits. Counting 19 of the 20 leading hospitals in the world and 4 of the 5 top cancer centers as clients, CannonDesign excels at scaling impact into these types of organizations. Eric joins the Supercool podcast this week to discuss how CannonDesign is making high-performance, low-carbon buildings the new normal—without waiting to be asked.
