New data from the TGA revealed a spike in SAS-B approvals in the last 2 months, including a record-breaking month in May, which comprehensibly beat the previous record. New prescribing trends in 2024 have also emerged from this data, with chronic pain, still the most widely prescribed indication, having dropped its prescription share percentage down to 41% compared to 46% in 2022. In contrast, anxiety, sleep disorders, and depression have also experienced a significant increase in the same time period. What are your thoughts? 175,000 people in Maryland, U.S. will have their cannabis convictions pardoned. This will take the total number of cannabis convictions that have been forgiven or cleared in the U.S to about 2.5 million. South Africa has legalised cannabis for personal use! The new law, signed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa recognizes the rights of adults to possess and grow cannabis in private. Also, those with existing criminal records for certain cannabis-related offenses now have an established process to have their conviction(s) expunged. However, there is still no legislation for a regulated commercial cannabis industry, as those activities continue to be prohibited. What are your thoughts? Germany has introduced its cannabis driving limits, two months since it partially legalised recreational cannabis use. The limit has been set to 3.5 nanograms per milliliter of THC in the blood of drivers. This number was chosen as it was regarded as the equivalent risk of 20 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, which is the current limit in Germany. There has also been a total ban on consuming alcohol for drivers who have already consumed cannabis. What are your thoughts? Does Germany's approach make sense?
