His official title will be roving hitting coach, assisting our team practices, organizing and running youth team training as well as providing private lessons out of our brand new 10,000 sq ft Mt. Prospect facility! Ron brings over 30 years of experience of coaching hitters, teams, coaches as well as his own professional career with the Houston Astros.   • Our Class of 2027 preparing for their Vegas tournament here in a couple of weeks! We incorporate Trackman into our hitting nights as it gives us several key metrics we can use to check in our how our hitters are progressing. Data points like Exit Velocity, Launch Angle, Distance and Spin Rate are all feedback loops to our hitting department on where we are progressing and what things we can do differently in our training.   • Alumni Moves: Nick Weaver will be taking his catching talents to Eastern Michigan University! Nick is by far one of the most impressive backstops we've had come through Canes Illinois. Again, chose to go the JUCO route to Elgin CC, where he knew we would start and get the necessary reps to progress. Really has fine tuned the batting consistency at Elgin and maintained his impeccable game calling, framing, blocking and of course the registered firearm for when fellas want to try and steal.   • Learning from our mistake last year of taking our guys down to Florida over President’s Day weekend, we pushed our first tournament to MLK Day weekend. We also are ramping our invited athletes earlier too. The goal is to safely be able to have them able to throw 50-55 pitches that early in the year. Our pitching director, Kevin Davis hammered home the hinge component of our pitchers’ lower half. Sitting back into their back hip, then violently dricing that lower knee down into the mound as opposed to pushing up, losing that valuable power they have built up. Very excited to see how these young men show out in Las Vegas in just about a month! #canesbaseball #travelbaseball #pitchingcoach #pitchingmechanics
