?? Full Circle Moment ?? Yesterday, Yoli from Cancer Kinship had the incredible honor of meeting with the Laguna Niguel Rotary Club. She shared her personal cancer story, which led to the launch of Cancer Kinship. This was more than just a speaking engagement - it was a full circle moment. At just 16 years old, Yoli found her calling in nonprofit work through service clubs led by incredible community leaders, including her mentor and friend, Charlene Nielsen and “The Gang of 5” who cared about the youth in Exeter, CA. Those early connections and guidance paved the way for what has been a 30+ year career of service, love, and purpose. Fast-forward, presenting to a club that has supported Cancer Kinship’s free wig program was a joy. Rotary’s belief in our mission has allowed us to continue empowering cancer survivors, providing them with wigs and resources during their most vulnerable moments. A special thank you to their President, Kristin Epperson for her continued support and friendship. Her leadership and kindness means the world to us, and together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of cancer warriors. ?? Today, the global cancer community commemorated World Cancer Day, with a call to action to “Close the care gap.” This day calls for everyone to collectively and individually commit to strengthening actions aimed at improving access to quality care, which includes screening early detection, treatment, and palliative care. One specific way Cancer Kinship is reducing the impact of cancer is by joining forces with Varian, to help support their vision of “a world without fear of cancer.” Our founder, Yoli Origel, represented Cancer Kinship and the clients we serve at Varian’s inaugural empowerME Patient Advocacy Advisory Board meeting in Palo Alto, CA last week. She was joined by CK volunteer, supporter, fellow cancer warrior and author of @vanquishingcancer, Steven P. Shepard, and colleagues from ZERO Prostate Cancer, National LGBT Cancer Network, National Cervical Cancer Coalition, Stupid Cancer, Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, and Breast Cancer Survivorship Foundation. Led by two amazing cancer warriors from Varian, Keelin McGee & Melanie Eckhardt, and a very special moderator, Carmen Brown Marshall, this special advocacy day was dedicated to learning and sharing about the patient experience with a global company who is committed to expand access to care and enhancing the patient experience. It’s was an honor for CK to have a seat at the table and share the stories of our Kinner Circle.
