Parody, educate, and celebrate the aviation maintenance life
关于我们
A podcast created by aircraft mechanics for aircraft mechanics, technicians, and everyone who make planes fly. This podcast parodies, educates, and celebrates the experiences of those aviation specialists who put in the long, strenuous hours to make planes fly smoothly and safely. Everyone is fascinated by planes; most media outlets show only the glamor of aircraft pilots and the fancy "rebel" maneuvers they perform. Why? because it's cool and it's profitable. Who doesn't dream of flying or being a Top Gun pilot? However, for every flight hour that is flown, there's a team of specialists that toil in the background for 8-16 hours to make that flight happen. We bring those specialists into the light and share their stories in the most comically educational way possible.

???? Hands-on Learning & Snakes on a Plane! ???? At San Bernardino Valley College Aeronautics Department, our powerplant class is getting hands-on with aircraft ignition systems—learning how to internally time a magneto, test components, and ensure everything is in top shape for real-world aviation maintenance. ???? But it’s not all just lab work! Our Aeronautics Club had a fantastic time at Club Rush, where this year’s theme was Movie Night! ???? And what better way to represent aviation than with our own Snakes on a Plane-themed booth? ????? From aviation simulators to engaging with students about aviation careers, we had a blast promoting our program and encouraging others to join the club. Many of these students will also be competing at the MRO Americas Aerospace Maintenance Competition in Atlanta, Georgia later this year! ???? They’re ready to showcase their skills on a national stage, proving why SBVC aviation students are among the best. A huge shoutout to our students, faculty, and community supporters who make learning and networking so much fun! ???? #AviationEducation #AircraftMaintenance #FutureAMTs #MagnetoTesting #SBVCAeronautics #STEM #MROAmericas #AviationCommunity #HandsOnLearning #ClubRush #SnakesOnAPlane #MovieNight #AvGeek #AviationCareers ??????????

The problem with leadership today is that it's left entirely up to the person trying to lead. They get the most basic knowledge of leadership and then are pushed out to learn more about leadership first-hand with very crude fundamentals. Some figure it out, most do not. "Yay, I'm a transformative leader!!! Now how do I apply that to manufacturing?" Then they come to LinkedIn for leadership knowledge just to be met by feel good leadership memes. "Hang in there", says the kitten dangling like Mufasa from the ledge. People don't come to leadership gurus for platitudes. That's why I try to offer actionable content. What if I told you there was a leadership theory that teaches actionable content that can be repeated after a small learning curve of what drives your team members? I call it the Applied Values Leadership Theory (AVLT), and it does exactly what the name says...it applies values. To give an example that can be used today, the majority of our team members value gratitude. You can meet this value by communicating your thanks to your team members for doing their jobs. Yes, you read that right, thank them for just doing their jobs...there's nothing that says you can't. Imagine getting a higher output of work out of someone just because you spent a little bit of your breathe and formed them into words. If they're making mistakes, thank them for being patient (if they are) and trying to progress. Not like I'm asking you to give them a raise... Meeting their values creates engagement. Engagement propels your team to the next level, which is why so many businesses pay for third-party surveys that measure engagement.

I silently coached my boss during my feedback session. I know leadership. Been doing this for 20+ years. Currently working on a book about the foundational levels of leadership that explains my theory on why positive leadership works and how to repeat those actions. Each time my boss showed a good leader trait I would commend him. Not directly and rather non-chalantly, but commend I would. In discussing his understanding of why my team is reacting to a negative input from our department: “Yeah thats empathy! Good trait to have in leadership.” Positively reinforcing the better traits of his leadership. He understands that motivation plays a part in leadership but he projects his own motivations. I silently coached positively reinforcing him over a half hour covering many different topics. My boss is working on his 2nd doctorate, which is evidence that education does not affect leadership by itself. This is why leadership development is so important. Leadership, like all skills, can be taught. But sometimes due to ego we have to be a little bit more nuanced. The irony that I learned how to be a good leader due to my team’s willingness to coach me is not missed. The trick is being willing to listen.
