Many individuals seek guidance, wanting ideas and direction on how to be better leaders. A frequent question they ask is "Where do I start and how can I improve?" This is why the title "How to be an Inclusive Leader" includes the word "How". In my years of working with leaders from various industries, I've learned that understanding how to begin this journey is the most critical factor in making genuine progress toward inclusion. While some of us are consistently thinking about fairness, privilege, equity, and advocacy, others may not be aware of these topics at all or may have only vague knowledge about them. Suicide Awareness Month I often mention when I am conducting leadership seminars that I can’t go anywhere month without hearing about another suicide. August ended with another story of a person taking their own life and this time it was someone that I knew. I don’t have the answer to this problem. I don’t think anyone does. All we can do is raise the awareness of suicide up and ask leaders to do all they can to be the difference.
