As the only national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact promotes public and community service that develops students’ citizenship skills, helps campuses forge effective community partnerships, and provides resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum. Members include public, private, two- and four-year institutions across the spectrum of higher education. These institutions put into practice the ideal of civic engagement by sharing knowledge and resources with their communities, creating local development initiatives, and supporting service and service-learning efforts in areas such as K-12 education, health care, the environment, hunger/homelessness, literacy, and senior services. Campus Compact comprises a national office based in Boston, MA, and state offices in CA, CO, CT, FL, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, WA, WI, and WV.

Making change at your school, workplace, or in your community is easier said than done. The Campus Compact Changemakers Retreat is an opportunity for aspiring boundary spanners to discuss what needs to change on their campuses or in their communities, and then figure out how to do it, together. This is a chance for individuals coming into their own as campus leaders to take four days of workshops, community-building, coaching, and goal-setting and turn those experiences into real-world impact. Heading home after an incredible day at the University of Louisville for the Engaged Scholarship Symposium hosted by the UofL Office of Community Engagement. I'm leaving inspired by the incredible Community Engaged Scholarship and Partnerships underway. I particularly loved learning about Professor Shelby Pumphrey's Medicine Workshops (https://lnkd.in/ePQctaVb) (Professor Pumphrey is also an inaugural member of the UofL Community Engagement Faculty Fellows cohort) and the reopening of the Parkland Library (https://lnkd.in/edqUtJUx), thanks in part to the incredible partnership between the public library system and the University Libraries. Campus Compact rockstar Laura Weaver delivered an awesome workshop on our Better Discourse Guide and helping campuses integrate Civil Dialogue and Discourse throughout their programs. (Thanks to The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations for making that work possible!) I had a chance to reconnect with President Kim Schatzel, EngageKY's Mindy Wilson and Gayle Hilleke, and meet Tevin Monroe, M.Ed who was a Newman Civic Fellow in 2021-2022 and is now working at UofL! Thanks to Douglas Craddock, PhD, Henry R. Cunningham, Ph.D., and the entire team for so much hospitality!! My only regret was forgetting to call out how much we love the UofL back at home for bringing us our #8 Lamar!!! Now back to Baltimore--wheels up!

A lot is happening in Washington, DC and Campus Compact wants to be squarely in those conversations. Our 2nd annual President's Policy & Impact Summit saw Campus Compact President Bobbie Laur bring a team of higher ed leaders to Capitol Hill for key discussions on civic engagement, workforce development, and public impact with staff representing a variety of congresspeople. Advocacy remains an essential part of what it means for Campus Compact to support students and communities. These discussions in Washington and the insights gained will inform our work for years to come! ? Read more: https://lnkd.in/gwT-twUQ
