On behalf of Atlanta Global Studies Center, I am happy to announce that we will provide grants to the first cohort of Georgia State University faculty to support their work in incorporating a virtual learning platform into their teaching. Ten recipients from different departments and majors at Georgia State University, Georgia State University Perimeter College, Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business, World Language and Culture Department, School of Hospitality will incorporate 360 GLE (Global Learning Experience), a Virtual Learning platform developed by the Study Abroad Association (SAA) and Campus Community, into their coursework in the Spring of 2025. They will explore the use of global content from 360 GLE in pre-departure study abroad programs, virtual exchange (#COIL), and other global perspective coursework. Thanks to the funding from the U.S. Department of Education for AGSC's activities as the Title VI #NationalResourceCenter, we can provide support for faculty who expressed interest in incorporating technology into their teaching. 360 GLE, indeed, has been available for all faculty and students at Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology to use. AGSC is glad to be part of this movement to introduce a different approach to study abroad, virtual exchange, and global perspective coursework in ATL. Congrats to all recipients this year. From refugee to global advocate, Mary Maker’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education. A South Sudanese refugee, Mary found hope in Kenya’s Kakuma Refugee Camp, where she transitioned from student to teacher, empowering young refugees, especially girls, to embrace education as a tool for rebuilding their lives. As a scholarship student, Mary graduated with honors in theatre and international relations from St. Olaf College, USA, while founding Elimisha Kakuma, a nonprofit connecting over 30 students in the camp to higher education. Now a UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador, Mary uses her platform to champion refugee education and inclusion, sharing her story at global events like the UN General Assembly and Global Washington’s Women of the World Breakfast. Her advocacy reminds us all: “For the child of war, an education can turn their tears of loss into a passion for peace.” Campus Community would like to thank everyone on The PIE team who contributed to making this year's event a success!
