Last month we united 80 student organizers from around the west coast for our West Coast College Climate Gathering at UC Berkeley. We learned how to pick strategic campus campaigns and build a real base to win our demands. We heard about the intersections of climate & labor and strategized about how to build power with the pro-Palestine movement on campus. On February 7-9, we'll gather again, this time at UNC Chapel Hill. Join us for the Southern College Climate Gathering by filling out our interest form: https://lnkd.in/gwWAPQxZ

Today is a horrible day. So much has been lost in the fight for the people we love and the world we deserve. We have every right to feel paralyzed, sad, and angry. But there is still so much left to fight for. There is no such thing as a democracy or climate so broken that it can't deteriorate further. Throughout history—whether against the climate crisis, racism, war, apartheid, or fascism—the student movement has always been at the forefront of social change. This moment is no different. However, the power of the student movement is not guaranteed; it will not spontaneously emerge out of thin air. Serious, disciplined organizing is our only shot at protecting a just and livable future. Campus Climate Network is building a massive base of students across the country, standing in solidarity with faculty, labor, and frontline communities, to advance climate justice on campus. We will use our power to meaningfully disrupt the higher education system, win real concessions from our universities, and send a powerful message to federal lawmakers about the priorities of this generation. This Sunday at 11am PT / 1p CT/ 2p ET, Campus Climate Network is holding a rapid response coalition call. During the call, you’ll learn more about CCN’s plan to win and how how YOU can build power with this coalition moving forward. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/g_tzbjGr

Coordinator opportunities at CCN are unlike any other internship, job, or fellowship at a climate nonprofit. We're a student-led, student-centered coalition with democratic decision-making. Joining our team doesn't just mean you'll have access to resources from across our network and from student organizers at campuses around the country. I had a great time speaking on a climate x labor panel as a part of the Campus Climate Network's West Coast College Climate Gathering! We brought together 80 student activists from 15 community colleges, public and private universities across the West. I explained how we centered labor solidarity in our campus decarbonization campaign and learned a lot about the worker-led Just Transition and the critical role UAW is playing in the research to start-up to industry pipeline.

Last week, student researchers from 6 universities released reports detailing the fossil fuel influence at their schools. We presented these results at our first ever CCN press conference -- where journalists and university community members alike learned about the report results. It's clearer now than it's ever been -- it's time for universities to stop accepting fossil funding for research and cut ties with Big Oil once and for all. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gvtGZ5DB

This past spring semester I lead a team of students with the Sunrise Movement and Campus Climate Network to create a Green New Deal for Campus campaign guide. Earlier this month, we released the guide!! This campaign guide runs through the ‘how-tos’ of campus activism, applicable demands, and resources to give students the tools we need to make our universities places full of community, places we actually want to be and get the best out of the education we pay for. Now, we work to make our campuses thrive on community, rather than the traditional corporate and transactional feel of higher education. Now, we work to decarbonize, divest, reinvest in students, staff and faculty, and democratize our universities. I’m so proud of all of the work we put into this guide. Thanks to Shiva Rajbhandari, Magnolia Mead, Maddie Young, Caitlyn Carpenter and many others for working on this with me!

The #energytransition is beginning to leave an imprint on #equitymarkets. Once a key driver of index returns and economic growth, the fossil fuel industry has shrunk to become a marginal player in major indices, making #fossilfuels an increasingly risky and speculative part of?passive?equity portfolios. In recent years, equity indices with reduced fossil fuel exposure have proliferated, passed major funds’ prudence tests, and been adopted without significant transaction costs. This is a part of?investors’ increasing recognition of the competitive pressures and compounding climate risks undermining the traditional #energy sector’s long-term outlook. A?few high-profit quarters have been unable to reverse a decade of underperformance, and as markets move in the direction of a lower-carbon future, ex-fossil?passive?strategies offer?investors?a key tool for responding to the risks and rewards of a warming world.
