We Believe in the Power of People and Place

关于我们

At Campion, we believe in the power of people and place. We believe that early intervention and access to safe housing can prevent youth homelessness and end homelessness all together. We advocate for conserving public lands as a solution to the ongoing climate crisis and for their intrinsic value as wild, open spaces. We operate a C3 foundation and a C4 organization, which allows us to fund directly, advocate directly, and suggest varied solutions at local, state, and federal levels.

We are ?? down with this post from Casey Trupin and would like to add one more thing we need to prevent youth homelessness: ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? Legislators, we ask that the $4 million in one-time funding be carried forward, which would maintain the total Homelessness Prevention and Diversion Fund funding at $5 million.? Why? ?? Because it's working! ?? Small, flexible cash grants are key to youth homelessness prevention and stabilization. It's smart to invest in solutions that have been proven to be successful. ?? #endyouthhomelessness #affordablehousing #investinyouth Raikes Foundation Schultz Family Foundation

Director, Housing Stability for Youth - Raikes Foundation. All content is my personal opinion only,

What would it take to not only end youth homelessness, but to prevent it from happening in the?first place? In just six years, Washington state reduced the number of young people experiencing homelessness by 10,000. This work didn’t happen overnight, and it took all hands on-deck, including young people, government, advocates, providers, researchers and funders. Our progress is very real, but so is the work ahead – too many young people still experience homelessness each year. Right now, funding cuts are threatening to reverse this trend. Fortunately, we have a few crucial insights to guide us through the challenges ahead: ??Systems are made up of people. Progress is only possible when public officials, funders, providers, and young people work together. ??Prevention efforts work. Strategic commitments to schools and community support systems help more young people transition out of public systems into stable housing. ??This is about homelessness for all people. Given that youth homelessness is the biggest pathway into adult homelessness, this work matters for our state’s efforts to reduce homelessness overall. ??Housing stability and academic success go hand in hand. That’s why we need to keep supporting students experiencing homelessness with targeted approaches. There’s a lot to be proud of, and I’m excited to keep going until every young person in our state has a safe and stable place to call home. Who’s in?

    • Infographic showing that Washington state has reduced youth homelessness by 40,000 from 23,961 young people to 14,410 - a 40% reduction between 2016 and 2022.
  • We completely agree with Paula Carvalho: true progress in ending youth homelessness in requires deep, cross-sector collaboration. ?? You know what we also need? ???? FUNDING ???? Legislators, we ask that the $4 million in one-time funding be carried forward, which would maintain the total Homelessness Prevention and Diversion Fund funding at $5 million. When youth in crisis are given small, flexible cash grants they can remain stably and safely housed. 93% of the young people who accessed the HPDF were still housed a year later. We call that successful. Seems like a good fiscal decision to keep investing in solutions that work, right? ?? #affordablehousing #endyouthhomelessness #investinyouth Raikes Foundation

Here’s one thing I’ve learned in my years working to address youth homelessness: true progress requires deep, cross-sector collaboration. I’ve seen data-driven strategies and partnerships work in real time, and I’ve seen young people take the lead in advocating for systems change. While there’s clearly more to do, I’m inspired by what I’ve learned: ??A shared vision for progress between public and private partners is non-negotiable. ??For data to be actionable, it needs to be frequent, impact-focused, and community-specific. ????????This work needs to be done *with* young people, not just *for* young people. Ending youth homelessness is possible, and we need to keep moving forward and moving together until every young person has a place to call home.

  • "As cities gentrify and become “revitalized,” the nurses, teachers, janitors and child care providers who keep them running are being systematically priced out. Unlike in earlier periods of widespread immiseration, such as the recession of 2008, what we’re witnessing today is a crisis born less of poverty than of prosperity. These workers aren’t “falling” into homelessness. They’re being pushed. They’re the casualties not of a failing economy but of one that’s thriving — just not for them." -- Brian Goldstone, author of “There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America,” in an essay for The New York Times. The "hidden homeless" are the families living in cars, the friend crashing on your sofa between shifts, your teen's buddy who floats between schoolmates' homes. We need to provide a *real* range of affordable housing in our cities. #affordablehousing #endhomelessness https://lnkd.in/gwHEMUPu

  • Once again, Americans of all political backgrounds continue to overwhelmingly support public lands in the American West for values other than oil and gas development. The love for pristine lands, wildlife, and fresh air is bipartisan. We encourage you to share this detailed polling with your circles. We must keep raising the voices of everyday Americans who value the clean water, habitat, and recreational opportunities our public lands make possible. #publiclands #conservation #americathebeautiful https://lnkd.in/guTtG9MB

  • Burien's City Council has outlawed overnight camping in an attempt to dissuade unhoused people from sleeping on city streets. "If city officials think putting more restrictions on unhoused people will fix their homelessness problems, they likely will be disappointed." The Seattle Times Editorial Board wrote today, adding, "Cities such as?Auburn, Richland and Aberdeen?have taken actions to move out people who have no place to sleep. Basically, “keep it moving, don’t stop here.”" Unhoused folks need immediate, safe shelter, access to services, and a road to affordable housing. Criminalization does not solve homelessness. #affordablehousing #endhomelessness https://lnkd.in/gZt4A3zM

"We have data that shows we are on the right path, reducing the number of young people surviving on our streets and that we are building a cost-effective, sustainable system. Data shows between 2016-22, youth and young adult homelessness was reduced by 40% — that’s 10,000 fewer young people surviving on our streets. In just four years we have seen a 29% reduction in the number of homeless young people who exited a state system of care (child welfare, justice and or behavioral health facilities)," said Jim Theofelis, NorthStar Advocates, in The Seattle Times. Thank you for your longtime leadership and heartfelt advocacy on behalf of unhoused youth, Jim! The systems we—government and private philanthropy together—have put in place are WORKING. To keep them working, Governor Ferguson and the state legislature must continue to fund them. Let's make it happen! ?? #endyouthhomelessness #functionalzero #waleg https://lnkd.in/g5bvArEZ

  • Nope. We're not having it. Contact your reps TODAY: https://lnkd.in/giYerEte Thanks to Diane Yentel, National Alliance to End Homelessness, National Homelessness Law Center, National Council of Nonprofits & Democracy Forward for leading the charge. We are right behind you.

??BREAKING: We're filing a Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the White House Office of Management and Budget from pausing all federal agency grants and loans. National Council of Nonprofits is filing together with public health and small business leaders, represented in court by Democracy Forward. This reckless action by the administration would be catastrophic for nonprofit organizations and the people and communities they serve. From pausing research on cures for childhood cancer to halting housing and food assistance, shuttering domestic violence and homeless shelters, and closing suicide hotlines, the impact of even a short pause in funding could be devastating and cost lives. This order must be halted immediately before such avoidable harm is done.

  • When President Jimmy Carter was in office, he broke the logjam in Congress to pass the Alaska National Interest Conservation Act—more than *doubling* America’s national parks system. The act added nearly 44 million acres in parks and preserves, along with 54 million acres in new or expanded national wildlife refuges. Carter, who loved the Alaska wilderness, safeguarded his legacy with the intensity of an Alaska brown bear defending a favored salmon fishing hole. We feel that protective ?? energy at Campion. We love America’s public lands, too. “My most grievous disappointment was that the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was not completely protected,” he said, after leaving the White House. “We still have an agenda to fulfill.” Earlier this year, President Biden took Carter’s wishes further when he added protections for more than 13 million acres in America’s Western Arctic. There is more to do. Campion is committed to doing it. In honor of President Carter, let’s all strap on our toolbelts and get to work. ?? What’s in your toolbelt to fight the good fight for America’s Arctic? ??? Read the op-ed by Tom Campion & Dan T. and drop a tool emoji below! https://lnkd.in/g9zzhDuu
