When it comes to digital dehumanisation - to weapons systems that target people - we need 'less autonomy, more humanity'
关于我们
Technology should be used to empower all people, not to reduce us - to stereotypes, labels or just a pattern of 1’s and 0’s. With growing digital dehumanisation, the Stop Killer Robots coalition works to ensure human control in the use of force. Our campaign calls for new international law on autonomy in weapons systems.

"It's dehumanising, it's unethical and the decision to take life should not be delegated to a machine. So we hope that states start to talk more about it...and advocate for a prohibition on autonomous weapons systems that target human beings." Verity Coyle, a member of our delegation from Amnesty International speaks about what's missing from the current discussions on the elements of new international law to #StopKillerRobots. These talks are taking place at the the United Nations in Geneva where the first 2025 meeting of the Group of Governmental Experts on #AutonomousWeapons is taking place this week. ?? For more information on why it's crucial that autonomous weapons should not target people, read this briefing paper from Automated Decision Research, our research and monitoring team: https://lnkd.in/eeW2YH7c

"No machine, computer, or algorithm is capable of recognizing a human as a human being." This week we're at the United Nations in Geneva for the meeting of the Group of Governmental Experts on #AutonomousWeapons, where states are discussing a rolling text where the elements of a potential treaty are being discussed. We’re in Taiwan ???? for RightsCon! This week we’ll be meeting with activists around the world working at the intersection of technology and human rights! Over the last few years there has been a growing trend of autonomy in weapons systems, an increase in the integration of artificial intelligence in warfare, surveillance, policing and border control. 2024 alone demonstrated the grave humanitarian consequences that arise from the reduction of human control and decision making in conflict. Now more than ever, international legal safeguards and norms are needed to protect humanity from growing digital dehumanisation and ensuring that machines can never make life-or-death decisions. We're excited to learning from and sharing with other #RIghtsCon participants and draw out connections between our work over the next few days. If you're attending #RightsCon reach out to us - otherwise, keep an eye on our channel for updates throughout the week! ??
