  • Logan (seen here in the middle) has been coming to camp since he was 10 years old. During his final year at youth camp, he shared: "It means a lot to me that there’s a place where kids like me, who had cancer, can come and hang out together. It’s like a Hidden Paradise." This sentiment rings true for many campers. This is where kids who have been diagnosed with cancer can be themselves and not have to explain everything they have been through. It is where they find their community.

  • On-site social workers are an essential part of Camp Rainbow Gold! They play a vital role in supporting our campers' well-being. ???? Just a few things they do at camp: They collaborate with the Leadership Team to ensure activities promote mental health, organize mindfulness sessions, and help campers manage homesickness with self-care tools. ??♀??? So, in honor of Social Worker Month, we want to give a HUGE shoutout to Ashley, Beth, and Kristen, the amazing social workers who volunteer every year! ???? #SocialWorkersAwarenessMonth #Shine #ForTheKids #CampRainbowGold #SupportSocialWorkers #SocialWorkers

  • ?Camp is coming!? And our amazing volunteers are already hard at work planning the fun. Each camp has a Leadership team of five volunteers who plan every aspect of camp, including the weekly themes and activities. ?? Many on the team are former campers or parents of campers; plus, each team includes a social worker and an RN. They meet monthly starting in March to bring these magical experiences to life! Pictured here is our Spring Family Camp team, getting ready to kick off the first camp of the season. Today we're highlighting Jake Azevedo, who is starting a new position as Finance Specialist at the Idaho Department of Education next week! What brought you to Boise? I am originally from Kimberly, Idaho and moved home after college to spend time with my family. During my time living back at home, I saw how much public education is struggling to keep teachers and how that affects children like my brother. I decided I wanted to help make a change and help with the success of the next generation. I moved here because there were more professional opportunities. What's your biggest accomplishment? Earning my dual major bachelor's degree from Idaho State University. This was a huge deal because I am a first-generation graduate. What is your involvement in the community? I volunteer with local nonprofit Camp Rainbow Gold Inc and love being part of BYP because I get to meet so many new people and make connections. What's your career history?? I worked at Maverik, Inc. for four years. When helping to run a gas station/convenience store, you learn how to manage time, work hard, and how to work as part of a team. After Maverik, I worked for a non-profit called Family Services Alliance. We assisted survivors of domestic violence, which hits close to home for me. We would assist survivors whether they needed emergency shelter, rental assistance, help with filling a restraining order, etc. I also assisted first responders with calls that included DV. This taught me how to handle serious situations with the utmost diplomacy. I then worked in the office of the College of Business as a Management Assistant. In this role I assisted with event planning, financial management, schedule tracking, etc. I acted as a liaison between the Dean's office and students, staff, and faculty. My biggest takeaway was that there are a lot more moving parts to make secondary education run than I thought - for example, I had an active role in fundraising. What are your future goals? Some of my goals in my five-year plan include participating in the Leadership Boise program through the Boise Metro Chamber. When I thought I was going to be a banker, my goal was to help 1,000 families become more financially knowledgeable. This change in career path has altered my goals only slightly as my new goal is to help 1,000 students with their academic future. I want to work with the superintendent on a project that will affect small towns like the one I am from. I believe in our education system and I am excited to work in it. I hope that within the next five years, I am in a middle management point in my career. In my personal life, I hope to invest more in the stock market and real estate and golf more this season.?
