During the summer, our staff take a vote around week 5 to nominate their colleagues that best represent our staff awards for talent and commitment. These are given out within every age group. Here are some of our summer award winners profiles whom we asked "what makes a great first year staff member"? Conor Murphy, 21, Getzville, NY, studying Marketing. This summer Conor worked as a Lacrosse Instructor and Counselor to our oldest campers in the 9th grade age group. What makes a great first year staff member? "Being a first-year staff member with 9th grade is definitely a bit overwhelming and scary but if you use the training that is provided and trust the people above you that are there to help,?everything will work out. You need to find the line between friend and counselor with the campers. Don't overthink it and just have a good time with the boys! If you do that, it will be an unforgettable summer and you will likely be contemplating whether or not you want to do it all again next summer."

During the summer, our staff take a vote around week 5 to nominate their colleagues that best represent our staff awards for talent and commitment. These are given out within every age group. Here are some of our summer award winners profiles whom we asked "what makes a great first year staff member"? Sean Zurek, 19, Colombia, MO, studying Health Science. Worked this summer as Ropes Instructor and 7th-8th grade Counselor. What makes a great first year staff member? "To be a great first-year staff member at Cobbossee, you must be open-minded. Most likely, this experience will not be what you expect, and therein lies the beauty of it. The people you meet will end up being some of the most interesting you ever will. You might climb a mountain with them, in the rain, less than a week after meeting them (true story). You must also realize that you are not doing this job for yourself. It's so much more than that. You are doing it for your boys, and you can never fully understand that until you are saying goodbye on that last day."

Here are some of our summer award winners profiles whom we asked "what makes a great first year staff member"? Tabansi Howes, 20, Houston, TX, studying Kinesiology.?Worked this summer as a Football Coach and as a Counselor in our 7th-8th grade age group. What makes a great first year staff member? "To be a great counselor at Cobbossee, you must be flexible! As long as you're moving towards a goal (clean up routines, practices, behavior management), you are being successful. You need patience to do this, allowing you to be unbothered by the little things which can be hard. Last but not least, you also need to know how and when to be stern AND lenient. The kids and your co-counselors should be able to tell the difference, too!"

During the summer, our staff take a vote around week 5 to nominate their colleagues that best represent our staff awards for talent and commitment. These are given out within every age group. Here are some of our summer award winners profiles whom we asked "what makes a great first year staff member"? Denton Phillips, UK, hired as a Swim Instructor and lifeguard. Worked with 5th-8th graders this summer. What makes a great first year staff member? "To be the best member of staff you can be, in my opinion, is pretty simple. All you have to do is immerse yourself in all things Cobbossee. Embrace their values of sportsmanship, brotherhood and community and don’t be afraid to lean on the experience of the excellent returning staff. They are returners for a reason! If you are able to do these two things and manage your energy, your summer will most likely be as awesome and life changing as mine was."
