On weekends, you’ll find him working with Lawyers to the Rescue, a pro bono legal initiative led by Spencer Aronfeld, ensuring that those in need have access to justice. ???? That moment, one person helping another, became the seed that grew into Camillus House. ?? For nearly 65 years, rooted in the compassionate hospitality of St. John of God, we have grown from feeding the hungry to helping thousands rebuild their lives - providing shelter, job training, medical care, and a supportive community for those experiencing homelessness in Miami-Dade County. ?? Thank you, Simply Healthcare Foundation! ?? Since 2018, Simply Healthcare Plans Foundation has been a dedicated partner in our mission to serve individuals experiencing homelessness. Their most recent $200,000 grant is allowing us to expand mental health and substance use treatment, increasing access to therapy, case management, and critical resources that reduce relapse risks and promote long-term stability. This funding also helps clients secure housing by providing financial assistance for security deposits, furniture, and household essentials, which is a vital step in transitioning from homelessness to independence. Francisco Perez once relied on Camillus House’s Day Center for essentials like meals, clothing, and shower services. With support from our Workforce Development Initiative, he found employment at the Hyatt Regency hotel, secured stable housing, and is now saving to reunite with his family. His journey is just one example of how Camillus House provides more than a bed; it offers the tools needed to turn life around. Through Camillus YOUniversity (CamYOU) and a range of life skills programs, individuals gain the knowledge and support necessary to achieve independence. At our main campus, clients can access courses in Personal Budgeting, Computer Literacy (Computers 101), Household Management, Housing Search, Preparing for an Interview, GED preparation, Cooking 101, and more. These programs are designed to support people in four key areas: Core Needs and Resources, Independent Living, Job Readiness, and Social & Personal Development for Healthy Living. With the guidance of Camillus House case managers and career specialists, Francisco gained the skills and confidence to build a stable future. His story is a testament to the benefit of a comprehensive system of care and a reminder that, with the help of our community partners, we can continue to empower others facing similar challenges to overcome homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency.
