"My vision is one where everyone has access to the resources they need to do the things they want. This is what sociologist Fred Wherry calls "Financial Justice". Specifically, I hope to be part of shifting commercialized finance to recognize and develop intersectional products that meet people where they are, putting "community finance" on the same level as 'mainstream finance'." ??Meet 2024 #CamelbackFellow David Henderson, Founder of Giving Credit, who is tapping into technology to amplify community finance by mapping, supporting, and capitalizing social credit networks in communities. ??Learn more about David's founder journey: https://lnkd.in/gzp8QidU . . . . . #entrepreneur #entrepreneurs #entrepreneurship #socialgood #socialimpact #socialentrepreneur #socialentrepreneurship #inspiration #tech #techforgood #conscioustech #finance #credit #camelbackfellowship #camelbackfam #camelbackfellow2024 #socialimpactinvestment #investment #venturecapital

CBV increases access to opportunity for BIPOC + women entrepreneurs by investing in their ventures + leadership
关于我们
Camelback Ventures aims to diversify social innovation, by giving underrepresented, early-stage entrepreneurs access to the tools they need to be successful. Camelback was built with the notion that genius is equally distributed across communities, but access to funding and start-up mentoring is often limited in communities of color and with women. Camelback provides entrepreneurs with greater access to resources. Camelback Ventures awards its fellows with 1:1 coaching, capital (start up funding, up to $40,000) and access to investors and networks (connections). Camelback Fellows, most of whom identify as people of color and/ or female, work in communities across the country. To date, Camelback fellows have built social organizations that have impacted the lives of tens of thousands of young people across the country. Camelback fellows have built STEM-based social mobile games, a charter school network in New Orleans, a mobile app to help recognize strong academic performance, and a platform to help universities track and develop at risk scholarship students. Camelback Fellows have collectively gone on to raise over $14 million in funding. For three years in a row, 3 or more Camelback Fellows have been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30.

Camelback Ventures CEO Shawna Young, MBA shares her personal reflections on the outcome of this week's U.S. Presidential race.
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER| Educational Nonprofits | Philanthropic Foundations | Edtech Startups | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Thought Leader | Qualified Board Member I Social Impact Innovator I STEM Change Maker
My Salute to Black Women Leaders: We See You and Thank You! This week’s election results took me back to reflecting on the legacy of Black women, starting with my original she-ro, my mom.? Growing up, I was captivated by my mother's stories of life on an Arkansas farm with seven of her nine siblings. She painted vivid pictures of family suppers that required multiple chickens to feed all ten family members, and shared stories of how many of them pursued higher education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. But it wasn't until I was older that I truly understood the weight of her other stories—of segregated schools, "Black only" water fountains, and restricted white and Black spaces. These weren't distant historical accounts from a grandmother or great-grandmother; these were the lived experiences of my mother, who walks among us today. ? My mother's remarkable trajectory from growing up in the Jim Crow South to becoming a decorated educator in integrated schools in Fayetteville, NC for 20 years, and since 1988 the successful President of CountrySide Gymnastics, exemplifies the resilience and determination that characterizes so many Black women leaders. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community building laid the foundation for my leadership journey and personal values as a former science teacher to the helm of Camelback Ventures as CEO. ? As we grapple with the outcomes of this week's election, we're reminded of how America sees—or doesn't see—Black women as leaders and changemakers. From Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, and Shirley Chisholm, we have all of the receipts. Black women have consistently fought for the true promise of America, even as our country continues to wrestle with the deep-rooted impacts of our storied history of colonization, slavery, racism, and sexism. ? Today, I'm giving flowers to my fellow Howard University alum, Vice President Kamala Harris. Like many Black women leaders, you were asked to do the impossible and still took on the charge with fierce determination for our country. You continue the legacy of firsts for Black women; you represent not just a personal achievement of becoming the first woman Vice President of the United States but embody the culmination of countless dreams and sacrifices made by Black women throughout our nation's history. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wish for you all of the rest and restoration you need. It is more than well deserved! ? Our ancestors' unwavering vision and determination remind us to stay the course because we are all owed our inalienable rights and freedoms. As we embark on the next four years, we must continue the fight! Most importantly, as a country, we must lift up the resilience and achievements of Black women leaders and commit to championing their work toward a more equitable and just society. ? #KamalaHarris #BisonPride #BlackWomenLeaders #BlackExcellence #WomenInLeadership #Diversity #Equity #HarrisForPresident
