Another big weekend in the books! We had teams on both coasts again this weekend to cover Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party in Disney World, and the D23 News Extravaganza in California! Mind-blowing, detailed coverage across the board. And THEN, our editorial, social, and video teams working in shifts round-the-clock to make sure we didn't miss a thing on any platform -- just an exquisite example of dedication to our readers, followers, and viewers making sure they got all the important details ASAP. Despite the long hours, it was actually pretty fun! It's an honor to work with this team. https://lnkd.in/gZVhu3C4

I got a couple three things to say today about our incredible team here at DFB and AllEars: We're about to complete an absolutely EPIC week of round-the-clock exclusive preview coverage of Tokyo DisneySea's new port, Fantasy Springs. It was a DREAM to cover, and our team all over the world STEPPED UP! From articles to short form video, YouTube coverage, every social media platform that exists -- we had immediate, useful, informationally- and visually-packed content going up within MINUTES of our team experiencing it in Tokyo. And our comms team was on top of answering questions, sharing details, and making sure our readers, viewers, followers, and customers got the information they needed. We've been doing this for over 15 years, and things have changed a lot. But one of the first things we have always told applicants in interviews here is that...it's not for everyone. We literally try to scare people away. Because as digital media evolves, the job gets harder, and you have to get better. And this team? This team is killing it. Kudos to everyone involved this week in the all-nighters, the on-the-ground coverage (which is WAY WAY harder than it looks), the 3AM reel edits, the 12-hour YouTube editing turnover, the Google translate sessions, the "wait a minute, was that a hidden Pinocchio?!" and all the rest. So rad to see it. And I'm grateful to be your colleague. https://lnkd.in/gSYiMSG3
Disney Food Blog on Instagram: "Disney's new Frozen Journey ride is probably one of the best rides they've ever created. ?????? We got to ride Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey in Tokyo DisneySea's Fantasy Springs as part of a media preview and we're speechless. ?? The quality of the animatronics -- the sheer NUMBER of animatronics -- coupled with the kind of emotion they're capable of showing...and

Super thought-provoking conversation with Amelia Tait for this excellent article. An evolving topic that we're just starting to dig into (and she makes me sound smart in my quotes ?? -- so thank you for that!). https://lnkd.in/gDf8xz4D

Just returned from our Cambrick Yard Leadership Retreat in Orlando and here are a couple of good takeaways: -- Working in a distributed company is great from an autonomy perspective, but the dispersed set-up opens the door for miscommunication and misinterpretation. Getting our leadership team together a couple of times per year pays big dividends both for relationship building and unifying vision and goals. This is especially true because we work in such a volatile and ever-changing industry, where goals and KPIs can quickly change. -- Piggy-backing on that, all of our teams are so innovative and fast-moving that it's hard to keep up with what everyone else in the company is doing...so we end up not benefitting from each other's breakthroughs! Communication is key -- as well as celebrating each other's wins and learning from them instead of reinventing the wheel. -- We're very lucky to have a supportive leadership team right now, but that's not always the case in distributed companies. It's very easy to misinterpret slack messages and whatsapp emojis as passive aggressive or having hidden meanings when you're not confident in your value to the company. These kinds of assumptions are poison -- both to the team member and the organization. But we all struggle with them at times. Honing in on how to create a culture of support and trust as much as possible is the dream, but setting the standard of practically thinking about how your message might be interpreted before you send it is the most actionable way to approach this. This all pretty relatable and 101 for any organization. But what's compelling to me is that the things that were difficult in the office are 10 times more difficult out of the office. Studies show that it's harder to pick up and excel at NEW skills when you're working from home, so distributed companies are fighting an uphill battle. We take that into account when we're planning for and measuring progress.
