Thanks to Kayla and Maricela and so many others for some motivating, exciting conversations.
Met some amazing activists and organizers at the get-acquainted event for new Conservation Lands Foundation CEO Chris Hill in Palm Springs. The conservation movement is alive and well, thank you very much. And we're not going anywhere, no matter what the incoming administration does or thinks it's going to do.

Tribal leaders & state legislators recently called on President Joe Biden to designate three national monuments in California, including Chuckwalla National Monument in the California Desert! "Public lands are crucial to local economies, and the Chuckwalla National Monument will be no exception. California’s national parks alone generated $2.7 billion in visitor spending and supported over 34,000 jobs in 2022. The Outdoor Industry Association found that outdoor recreation in California generates $92 billion annually in consumer spending and supports 691,000 jobs." In his latest op-ed, City of Desert Hot Springs Council Member Gary Gardner asks the President to designate Chuckwalla National Monument, a step that would protect invaluable landscapes while also boosting economic growth in the Coachella Valley. The proposed Chuckwalla National Monument would protect around 620,000 acres, stretching from Coachella Valley to the Colorado River and including parts of the Eagle Mountains near Joshua Tree. With strong support from six Tribes, local communities, scientists, veterans, and businesses, Chuckwalla’s designation would safeguard cultural heritage, critical habitats, and natural spaces vital to the local economy. We urge President Biden to take action and ensure that these places are permanently protected.

No matter what the political context, you can depend on CalWild to fight for California's wild spaces and public lands. Whether it's defense work to stave off attempts at logging our old-growth forests,or grassroots organizing to advance the cause of a new national monument proposal, CalWild is there with expertise, experience, skill and effective relationships we can bring to bear. Many of us are surprised and dismayed at this week's electoral results. They don't look good for the conservation causes we hold dear. But we've been in this situation before, and we have been able to hold the line. We have every intention of doing it again. CalWild depends on member support to keep our work going. Reposting this important message about Prop 4 as you head into the voting booth. Vote yes on Prop 4 for California's future!
Did you know that only 22% of California’s lands and waters are currently protected? With Prop 4, we have the chance to push that to 30% by 2030. While this year’s election cycle might be contentious, this vote shouldn’t be. Prop 4 would allocate $10 billion toward critical climate, water, and natural resource projects, with 40% dedicated to supporting low-income and disadvantaged communities. Prop 4 offers a real opportunity to strengthen our state’s natural resources, protect our communities, and make lasting climate progress. Let your voice be heard—vote Yes on Prop 4 for California’s future.

138 attacks on the Endangered Species Act in one Congress alone! The ESA, our most powerful tool against extinction, is under unprecedented assault. In the 118th Congress, anti-wildlife actions tripled from previous years, with protections for gray wolves, endangered whales, and other species at risk. Many of these attacks are hidden in spending bills as “poison-pill” riders. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund just released a new report cataloging these attacks. Losing the ESA would mean irreversible wildlife losses and weakened ecosystems. Your vote is the most powerful way to voice your concern and protect our planet’s future. Our most vulnerable wildlife needs us. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gVVr5zCY
