LA Business Journal sought comment from CALSTART on the impact of President Trump's executive orders on its membership: "These announcements have had a chilling impact...[m]y member companies are concerned about their future," said John Boesel, CEO of CALSTART in the LA Business Journal. "Boesel said some of the electric vehicle charging companies in the consortium were in the midst of raising outside funds when Trump’s executive order hit. 'Some of the companies in our consortium could face bankruptcy if this situation doesn’t stabilize soon,' Boesel said. 'It will be particularly tough for the startups.' The reporting goes on to note that CALSTART is looking for increased support from the states to combat potential losses in federal funding. One avenue would be to meet with Governor Newsom and legislative leaders in the upcoming weeks to propose more cap-and-trade revenue toward EV structure. Writing for E&E News about how EVs change America, reporter David Ferris spoke with CALSTART CEO John Boesel about federal funding freezes and their impact on port decarbonization efforts. John noted that Inflation Reduction Act funding for this important work has port personnel--from coast to coast-- feeling “very concerned and alarmed that funding may go away.” John reminds readers that ports “were incredibly excited about the opportunity, and they are still hoping they can make the case that those funds should still be invested in their projects.” As the coverage asserts, dozens of ports are facing uncertainty about their grant money, and most experts interviewed for the article believe losing this funding could set back the electric truck industry by at least five years—threatening America’s global competitiveness. Meanwhile, in high-impact areas like Los Angeles, where “diesel vehicles that move goods produce 80 percent of the region’s nitrogen oxide pollution and 30 percent of particulate matter,” residents will continue to suffer from the health impacts of this pollution. The latest Zeroing in on Zero-Emission Buses (ZIO ZEB) report, authored by Mike Hynes and Kaila Lemons offers up-to-date data reflecting a consistent rate of growth for zero-emission transit buses in the U.S. "The continued growth of zero-emission transit buses in the United States reflects the commitment of transit agencies to cleaner, more sustainable transportation. Despite industry challenges, we’ve seen a 14% increase in full-size zero-emission bus deployments over the past year, demonstrating resilience and progress toward a zero-emission future.
