A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday, Nov. 8, to celebrate the construction of the Charles and Claire Jacobson Animal Health Center and to thank lead donors who have helped to make the project a reality: the Shaw Family, Tracy and Paul Pezzini, Tim and Alex Eastman, Bonnie Snyder and Hunt and Debra Turner. Cal Poly has established itself as the premier program in pre-veterinary medicine, sending dozens of students each year to professional veterinary programs. We believe passionately in our hands-on program, which gives students a tremendous amount of practical experience with both large and small animals during their Cal Poly experience. Congratulations to all involved in the inaugural Prescribed Fire Training Exchange, hosted by Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Ranch’s Fuels and Vegetation Education program, in San Luis Obispo County last week.?The program, funded?by CALFIRE's ?Healthy Forest Initiative and the California Climate Initiative, incorporated eight days of training, both inside the classroom and at two prescribed burns in Harmony Headlands and in the Carrizo Plain. The Cal Poly Wildland Urban-Interface (WUI) FIRE Institute is hosting a free screening of the award-winning documentary “Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire,” followed by a Q&A panel including filmmaker Ralph Bloemers, WUI Director Frank Frievalt and retired San Luis Obispo County fire chief Robert Lewin. The film takes viewers on a journey with the top experts in the nation to better understand fire. Aaron Lazanoff, Cal Poly’s beef operations manager, was named Cattleman of the Year by the San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen's Association.
