It’s been an absolutely amazing first 24 hrs. of the National PACE? Association’s 2024 annual conference! ?? With generous support from McKesson, we kicked off conference week with a lively CalPACE member reception. We loved reconnecting with friends we haven’t seen in a while! This morning, Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie, reminded us about the importance of forgiveness, the value of giving, and the pricelessness of spending time with loved ones. ?? This afternoon, California #PACE orgs led the way during today’s educational sessions: ?? Randall Sanner and Ofra Paz from Gary and Mary West PACE showcased innovative housing partnership models. ?? John Blazek, Jeffrey Basile, Zandra Lee, and the team from On Lok described the creation of “Club 75” - an inclusive day center for LGBTQ+ older adults. ?? Melissa Hooven and Barbara LaHaie from REDWOOD COAST PACE, and Lori Frank from On Lok PACE partners, reflected on the valuable lessons learned from CA’s first and only rural PACE, after 10 years. We ended the night networking and socializing in beautiful San Diego courtesy of our friends at AnewHealth, care.coach, Dragonfly Health, Grane Rx, Intus Care, and RTZ Systems. Thanks to you all! ?? On to the next 24 hrs. of education, networking, and celebrating NPA’s 30th anniversary! #PACE #NPA2024AC #inspiring #gratitude

At PACE, where Social Determinants of Health are relatively well addressed, the next frontier is tackling Digital Determinants of Health. As we embrace telehealth, data-driven tools, and AI, we must ensure that technology enhances equitable care without creating new barriers. The future of care depends on how we bridge the digital divide to truly empower our PACE Participants. Please join our moderator,?Val Sheehan, CEO of CalPACE, and my fellow panelists,?Kendra Seavey, MPH?CEO of care.coach, and?Rena Smith, ED of Gary and Mary West PACE,?at?the National PACE? Association?Conference on Tuesday, Oct 15th, at 2 pm PST to discuss the Digital Determinants of Health in PACE. AnewHealth National PACE? ?We were so pleased to be a part of “From Foundation to Future”, celebrating the 10th anniversary of On Lok’s East San Jose PACE Center. ? The event honored the numerous and impactful achievements of Board Supervisor Cindy Chavez and featured heartfelt tributes and formal recognition by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Assemblymember Ash Kalra. The East San Jose Center was built by the community for the community. Through On Lok’s vision, leadership, and partnership with local leaders and elected officials, the Center continues to support and strengthen the East San Jose community, and will for many years to come. We loved the shout-out to the dedicated PACE staff who provide high-quality care to the community’s older adults and their families every day. They are the heart and soul of PACE. #localheroes ??????♀????????? Congratulations Grace Li, Eileen Kunz, Katherine Kelly, and Julie Erdmann on a highly successful event!! ????????

In our pursuit of #healthequity for older adults in California, we are celebrating National Ageism Awareness Day today! ?? According to the American Society on Aging, Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. It negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security, and the economy.?It exists in many forms, influencing everything from personal interactions to public policy, and impacts us at every age. Like other "isms," ageism can be interpersonal, internalized, implicit, or institutional. It can intersect with other forms of discrimination to create even more barriers to optimal health and well-being for older adults. Let's #TalkAboutAgeism now!

What an amazing day at the CA for ALL Ages and Abilities Day of Action! A huge thank you to the California Department of Aging for organizing such an incredible event. The lineup of speakers was nothing short of remarkable—HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, Kim McCoy Wade, CHHS Secretary Kim Johnson, Sarita Mohanty, MD, MPH, MBA, Senator Mike McGuire, Assemblymembers Cecilia Aguiar-Curry and Corey Jackson, DSW, MSW just to name a few. The insights shared by the Master Plan for Aging Stakeholder Advisory Committees were incredibly inspiring, providing a clear vision for a more inclusive and supportive future. But it was the panel of community members with lived experience that truly resonated with us—it was a powerful reminder of why we do this work and the real impact the initiatives we advocate for have on people's lives. Their stories were both moving and motivating, bringing a deep sense of purpose to the day's discussions. We couldn’t be more proud to stand alongside such dedicated advocates and change-makers! #CAforALL #MasterPlanForAging #DayOfAction #PACE #MPA

Happy 10th Anniversary to REDWOOD COAST PACE! ?? ?? CalPACE Board Member and CEO Melissa Hooven and her team have done an outstanding job bringing this comprehensive, community-based model of care to high-needs older adults in Humboldt County, helping them to live longer, healthier lives in their homes and in their communities. As the first #rural PACE in the nation and the only rural PACE in the state, they proved that a model developed in the heart of urban San Francisco could adapt and just as effectively serve a Northern CA rural population. Thank you for being a trailblazer and champion of rural senior care. Congratulations again on this remarkable achievement! Had a fantastic time at Capitol Weekly’s Health Care in California conference! The panels were rich with insight, from the pros and cons of AI in healthcare to how the Office of Health Care Affordability is working towards holding healthcare entities accountable to meeting their cost targets. An intimate discussion with Assemblymember Jim Wood about the legislation he authored was especially valuable. The final panel tackled the budget shortfall, discussing how the legislature developed creative solutions to prevent a recession. We also dove into the November ballot propositions, weighing their potential trade-offs and ramifications if passed. It was a very informative day to say the least! Grateful to all the speakers for sharing their expertise!

Yesterday, we had the distinct honor of celebrating Eileen Kunz, Chief of Government Affairs & Compliance at On Lok as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement. Eileen’s remarkable career started at On Lok, where she played a pivotal role in the replication of the PACE model both here in California and across the nation. Her vision and dedication were also instrumental in establishing CalPACE, where she served in nearly every leadership role — from Board Chair and Vice Chair to Board Member and active Committee Member. Throughout her career, Eileen has led with unwavering integrity, always guiding her team and peers with wisdom and grace. She has left a legacy that will inspire all of us to continue the work she so passionately championed. We are immensely grateful for her contributions and the path she paved for the next generation of leaders. Eileen, you will be deeply missed, but we look forward to staying connected and in the course of our work, we’ll remember to always ask ourselves, “What would Eileen do?”

Oh my gosh, what an incredible day at the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Team CalPACE was honored to join so many amazing people, organizations, and providers—each one touched by Alzheimer's or working tirelessly to support individuals living with this disease. The energy was absolutely electric, and we were thrilled to walk alongside our community for such an important cause. Huge shoutout to one of our members, Sutter Senior Care PACE, for being there as well! ?? #ENDALZ #AlzheimersAwareness #PACE Alzheimer's Association? KP Public Affairs

The Governor has vetoed Senate Bill (SB) 37. It is disappointing but not unexpected. While we understand the fiscal concerns behind the Governor’s veto of SB 37, it's clear that current programs and investments fall short of addressing the urgent and growing housing instability among older adults and individuals with disabilities. It’s disheartening but we must continue to advocate for stronger solutions that prioritize stable housing for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Our work isn’t done. #HousingForAll #HousingCrisis #SB37 #Advocacy Justice in Aging LeadingAge California CSH, the Source for Housing Solutions
