CalOptima Health Chief Executive Officer Michael Hunn recently attended the grand opening of Estrella Springs, a permanent supporting housing development in Santa Ana. CalOptima Health contributed $4.7 million in Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program (HHIP) funding to Jamboree Housing to help refurbish the Budget Inn Motel resulting in 89 units. A new 4,347-square-foot, two-story community center features dedicated service and amenity spaces for residents and on-site staff. This center will be a hub for case management, activities and programming. Last week, Chief Health Equity Officer Michaell Silva Rose, DrPH, LCSW, attended United Way’s United for Financial Security Leadership Council and participated in the Social Services Agency’s Poverty Workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to simulate what people who are living in economic poverty in Orange County experience every day in engaging with a variety of service providers. Last week, the Orange County Board of Supervisors presented CalOptima Health with a proclamation recognizing October as #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth. 1 in 8 women, approximately 13% of the female population in the United States, will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Screening is the best prevention and early detection saves lives. ? Earlier this year, CalOptima Health awarded $16.4 million to 13 organizations as part of our campaign to help Orange County achieve the lowest incidence rate nationwide for late-stage breast cancer as well as cervical, colon and certain lung cancers.
