We work to ensure healthy waters and resilient wild fish for a better California.

关于我们

California Trout is a non-profit conservation organization that strives to solve complex resource issues while balancing the needs of wild fish and people through science-based advocacy, restoration, and community engagement. Some of our landmark achievements include legal victories that helped to restore the streams that feed the iconic Mono Lake and cutting-edge research aimed at recreating wetland habitat on off-season Central Valley farmland to support imperiled native salmon. With headquarters in San Francisco, we have seven regional offices, and we work closely with academic partners including UC Davis and UC Berkeley to find innovative, science-based solutions to the state's water issues.

?? Happy International Day of Forests! ?? Today is a great opportunity to explore the connection between healthy forests and thriving aquatic ecosystems. From the mountain peaks to the valley streams, everything is interconnected. ?? ?? As our completed June Mountain Forest Health Project shows, restoring aspen groves and whitebark pines does not just benefit the terrestrial ecosystems they're a part of! Healthy forests mean healthier meadows, cleaner water, and stronger fish populations. A good reminder that It's Not About the Fish — our science-driven conservation and restoration efforts are essential for a healthy and thriving California for all! Dive deeper into how forest health and fish health are intimately connected, accompanied by original CalTrout illustrations! https://lnkd.in/g9E47v5p Also a great opportunity to check our our new campaign It's Not About the Fish!?? ?? https://lnkd.in/gvwa6UHR

We've seen the incredible impact of our Fish Food program in the Sacramento Valley as it continues to benefit people and nature. ???? We are transforming entire landscapes, but it's not always glamorous. "Putting a cold pair of wet waders first thing in the morning — always the most pleasant, but that's what the hot cup of coffee is for" - said Jacob Montgomery, CalTrout's Central Valley Senior Project Manager. Check out the new article in KCRA 3 & My58 Television to go behind the scenes of our exciting work (fueled by lots of morning coffee ?)! https://lnkd.in/g9avGnPG

Thanks for joining the Save Santa Barbara Steelhead Town Hall last Sunday! ?? ?? Together, we discovered why steelhead are essential for a healthy California – including it's animals, fish, rivers, and people. CalTrout's South Coast Sr. Project Manager Russell Marlow, was one of eight expert panelists to discuss the historic and cultural significance of steelhead and its path to recovery. “The threat of extinction is real –[in the] next 10 to 25 years. And so we need to be doing these projects yesterday, really, to see the impact we want to have and to ensure that this species exists.” - Russell Marlow Want a recap of the event? Last week, we took to the skies ?? on an EcoFlight to give decision makers an aerial perspective of the Floodplain Forward Coalition's landscape-scale work in the Sacramento Valley. Our coalition of conservationists, biologists, farmers, water managers, and government agencies is proving that collaborative approaches can yield powerful results. ?? Special thanks to the legislative members and agency representatives who joined us to witness firsthand how we're working to flood hundreds of thousands of acres of Central Valley farmland over the coming years – a strategy that prioritizes water security for all Californians by enhancing river and wetland habitats for multiple species ?????? even as California’s climate continues to change. The path forward is clear – it is grounded in science, driven by collaboration, and looks even better from 5,000 feet up! ??
