What a day at #CSACAM! The day began bright and early, with attendees choosing between a lively Fun Run through Old Town Pasadena or a calming one-hour yoga session to start their morning. ? During the CSAC Awards Breakfast, presided over by the 2nd Vice President and County of Santa Clara Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, we celebrated excellence across counties. The event honored CSAC Institute graduates, presented the prestigious Circle of Service awards and recognized the County Counsels' Association for 50 remarkable years of service. A special highlight was a surprise recognition of Jennifer Henning, CSAC’s longtime Litigation Counsel, for her exceptional contributions to the #CAcounties family. The morning concluded with the much-anticipated announcement of the 2024 Challenge Awards winners—stay tuned for more details on these inspiring projects! ? The momentum continued with productive policy discussions. The Government Finance & Administration Policy Committee held an engaging meeting, while the California Counties Foundation hosted a workshop exploring the complexities of the federal grant cycle, providing valuable insights to attendees. ? At lunch, the celebration of excellence resumed with the presentation of Distinguished Service Awards, including remarks from honoree Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., California Secretary of State, and the election of the 2024-2025 CSAC Officers. Attendees also bid farewell to CSAC President and County of San Luis Obispo Supervisor Bruce Gibson, who gave a heartfelt address. The lunch program concluded with a dynamic keynote speech by author and political consultant Mike Madrid. ? We kept the energy going as we captured a group photo of our incredible county supervisors and reconvened for the CSAC Board of Directors Meeting.? ? And the excitement isn't over yet—tonight, we continue celebrating at the Annual Banquet and Installation of Officers. Stay tuned for even more updates and recaps from this unforgettable week of #leadership, #learning, and #community.

  • The learning, connection, and #CAcounty collaboration continues! Our day began diving headfirst into essential discussions, from the Women’s Leadership Forum Workshop to the Administration of Justice Policy Committee Meeting. #CAcounties got straight to work! The General Session, presided over by CSAC 1st VP Inyo County Supervisor Jeff Griffiths, featured a compelling State of the Association Address from Graham Knaus. We honored retiring supervisors and found inspiration in the words of keynote speaker Melissa Arnot Reid, who encouraged us all to climb higher. ? The afternoon kept the momentum going with board meetings, policy committee discussions, and workshops. Meanwhile, the Exhibit Hall buzzed with activity as attendees explored solutions tailored to their counties’ needs. In the evening, the celebration continued at the Los Angeles County Artisan Fair, where we showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans and entrepreneurs. President at Lucas Public Affairs

Well, this was indeed a treat. Today I moderated a discussion with my partner and my partner’s (life) partner – she, a former gubernatorial press secretary and he, our State Librarian and a former journalist – on the current media and public affairs landscape in a roomful of thoughtful practitioners, PIOs and administrators representing California’s diverse set of counties. Our work allows us to counsel as well as learn from our clients and California State Association of Counties? gives us the opportunity to both share and hear best practices from the folks truly operating on the front lines.
