With joy and enthusiasm, we present to you the Engaged Interpreting Class of 2024! Our 2024 class included 53 graduates (including 6 CRLA staff members!) from a variety of language communities. Our Engaged Interpreting Training provides an introduction to community legal interpreting and is open to aspiring and experienced interpreters of all levels. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and may have opportunities for paid interpreting work with CRLA. Starting in the new year, Californians who apply for Paid Family Leave or State Disability Insurance and make up to $62,000.00 per year will receive increased weekly benefits for claims while on leave from work. A change in the law will mean that Californians who earn less roughly $62,000 a year will receive 90% of their income as a benefit. This makes replacing income more accessible to those who who are facing the difficult of decision between continuing to work and taking care of themselves or others close to them.
