关于我们

California Revealed is a California State Library program that helps public libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and other heritage organizations digitize, preserve, and provide online access to materials documenting the state’s history, art, and cultures. The program also provides free access and preservation services for existing digital collections, and for partner organizations with in-house digitization programs. To date, California Revealed has preserved more than 170,000 objects from over 425 partner organizations representing a diverse array of constituencies and collections. The objects themselves are similarly eclectic: motion picture film, video tapes, audio recordings, newspapers, scrapbooks, photographs, microfilm, manuscripts, digital objects, and more. By providing the public online access to digitized materials, California Revealed is able to aggregate and connect the diverse collections of California’s heritage organizations into a single resource, available at californiarevealed.org. California Revealed records are also accessible through the Internet Archive, the Digital Public Library of America, Calisphere, and the Home Movie Registry, ensuring multiple access points for public discovery. Offering a kaleidoscopic view of California culture and history, California Revealed’s collections are an important and unique resource for a variety of users, including educators and students looking to integrate primary sources into their course of study. Each year, California Revealed issues an open call for libraries and other memory organizations to nominate their collections related to California history for Digitization and Preservation. Additionally, California Revealed offers targeted support for cataloging and community archiving, and is also working with the State Library to establish Memory Labs at libraries across the state. The day after Hollywood's biggest night feels like the right time to highlight a filmmaker who redefined the art form in her own way. As Women’s History Month begins, it’s worth remembering those who pushed the boundaries of cinema beyond the mainstream ??? In March 1983, the American Film Institute hosted the Women and Movies III festival, celebrating female filmmakers who shaped the medium. Among them was Sara Kathryn Arledge (1911-1998), a pioneering force in avant-garde cinema. Her film “Introspection” (1941-1947) stands as the first abstract dance film in the U.S. Arledge's artistic journey spanned from the late 1920s to the 1990s, influencing both the Los Angeles and Bay Area experimental film scenes ???
