Antonio Westerlund is our Technical Lead for our Surveying discipline and can often be found in his office mentoring our younger generation of surveyors. He enjoys helping young professionals create careers for themselves and understands the importance of raising the next generation of surveyors to continue making an impact on society. Antonio credits a class he took in junior college for piquing his interest in land surveying. Interestingly, Antonio fell in love with land surveying while in a forestry program, which led to a change in his career path. Antonio is certain he made the right choice. Although he works on various projects each day, his current favorite is a bathymetric survey to determine reservoir capacities in Mariposa. One word that can be used to describe Antonio? Passion. Mike Knopf, QK’s Chairman Emeritus, shares, “Antonio is passionate about a lot of things. He is passionate about hunting, fishing, finances, bar-b-q, and his career. He speaks loudly and passionately. For that, some people think he is angry, and then he laughs. The thing I love most about Antonio’s passion is his passion for the profession of land surveying. Not just the work associated with it but the profession itself. He wants to see it elevate. He wants those who participate in the profession to elevate. He wants the opinion of the public and all of society to be elevated concerning the land surveying profession. It’s personal with Antonio, and I really appreciate that.” When asked what his future goals are for his team, our clients, and the land surveying profession as a whole, Antonio kept it simple. In honor of National Surveyors Week, we’re highlighting some of our survey team members, and we’re starting off today’s celebrations with Travis Bohan! Travis has almost two decades of surveying experience for roadway and highway safety improvement projects, with in-depth knowledge of all Caltrans policies and procedures. His work includes survey support and construction staking for sewer pipe replacements, gas line replacements, bridge widening and replacement, interchanges, and streetscape improvements, along with topographic and control surveys, boundary resolution, underground utility mapping including plan and profiles, preparation of legal descriptions and plats for right of way and easement acquisitions. Travis has also coordinated and completed multiple GPS and conventional control surveys in support of aerial topographic mapping, mobile terrestrial laser scanning, boundary, and construction work. Outside of Mark Thomas, Travis serves as an Executive Direct of the CALIFORNIA LAND SURVEYORS ASSOCIATION (CLSA) Education Foundation, Council Member of the Fresno State Geomatics Engineering Advisory Committee and was previously the chair of the Professional Surveying Committee for American Council of Engineering Companies of California for 5 years. In his free time, Travis is the president of his kids’ competitive swim team, enjoys biking, sailing, rock climbing, automotive tinkering, and camping with his family & friends. He also helps his brother and parents with their family-owned business growing grass-fed beef, where he loves to spend time on horseback in the mountains. At Mark Thomas, Travis leads a team of surveyors to help deliver all phases of survey in support of transportation, bridge, pipeline design and construction projects to clients across the State. #NSW #NationalSurveyorsWeek #WeAreMarkThomas
