The ISO is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that operates the majority of California's wholesale power grid.
关于我们
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) manages the flow of electricity across the high-voltage, long-distance power lines that make up 80 percent of California's power grid. We safeguard the economy and well-being of 30 million Californians by "keeping the lights on" 24/7. As the impartial grid operator, the California ISO opens access to the wholesale power market that is designed to diversify resources and lower prices. It also grants equal access to 25,865 circuit-miles of power lines and reduces barriers to diverse resources competing to bring power to customers. The California ISO's function is often compared to that of air traffic controllers. It would be grossly unfair for air traffic controllers to represent one airline and profit from allowing that company's planes to go through before others. In the same way, the California ISO operates independently—managing the electron traffic on a power grid we do not own—making sure electricity is safely delivered to utilities and consumers on time and reliably.

Today, ACP hosted Power Perspectives, the second in a series of events focused on reliability in extreme weather and load growth. We had 12 industry experts join us to explore both the challenges and potential solutions to load growth. In the opening remarks, ACP CPO JC Sandberg set the stage by emphasizing that load growth and reliability have attainable solutions. In the first panel, Sarah Freeman from Indiana URC, Jim Robb from North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Mark Ahlstrom from NextEra Energy, Inc., Nidhi Thakar from Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), and Danielle Mills from California ISO discussed how load growth impacts grid operations, increasingly tight reserve margins, and how diversity of resources is the key to meet these challenges. In the second panel of the event, Chair Andrew French from Kansas Corporation Commission, Kent Chandler from RSI and the Fmr. Chair of Kentucky PSC, Aine Folan from Karbone, David Mindham from EDP Renewables, and Jason Burwen from GridStor explored innovative regulatory and market solutions designed to promote system adaptability, ensure a reliable and robust grid capable of meeting the demands of a dynamic energy future, quickly adding power to the grid, and specifics on how to keep costs low for consumers. Thank you so much to our speakers and all attendees that joined us in person & virtually. #PowerCasts25
