On February 28, we celebrated five decades of championing the humanities and explored how they can shape the future of artificial intelligence. We honored Tani Cantil-Sakauye with the Spirit of Humanities Award and heard from Attorney General Rob Bonta and experts on AI ethics. The discussion reinforced why human values, history, and ethics must guide innovation. Thank you to all who joined us! Here’s to the next 50 years. ?? Read more: https://lnkd.in/gWEaqqjM
关于我们
For almost 50 years, California Humanities has helped give voice to voices seldom heard. Through grants and special programs that reach into every corner of our state, we help tell the stories of California. Your stories. California Humanities (formerly Cal Humanities and The California Council for the Humanities) connects Californians to ideas and one another in order to understand our shared heritage and diverse cultures, inspire civic participation, and shape our future. California Humanities, a nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, promotes the humanities—focused on ideas, conversation and learning—as relevant, meaningful ways to understand the human condition and connect us to each other in order to help strengthen California. California Humanities has provided grants and programs across the state since 1975. To learn more, visit calhum.org.

On February 19, 1942, the President of the United States signed Executive Order 9066, which led to the forced removal of 120,000+ Japanese Americans, many from California. Today, we reflect on this history and the importance of storytelling, memory, and cultural preservation to ensure that past injustices are not forgotten so that history is not repeated.

The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty." – James Madison As the "Father of the Constitution," President James Madison recognized that a thriving democracy depends on an informed and engaged society. The humanities—history, literature, philosophy, and the arts—help us understand our world, preserve diverse perspectives, and foster civic engagement. This Presidents’ Day, we celebrate the role of the humanities in strengthening communities and shaping the future. How has history or storytelling shaped your view on leadership?
