The CFT Team spent Wednesday in Sacramento at Ag Day at the Capitol as part of National Ag Day festivities. This annual celebration acknowledges California’s agricultural community by showcasing the bounty of crops and commodities produced in our state. It is also a day for farmers and ranchers to educate and advocate state legislators, government leaders and the public on the importance of sustaining farming into the future. Best of all, we had popcorn!! Charlotte Mitchell, our Executive Director, and Paul Danbom from Danbom Farms made the rounds at the California Capital yesterday, advocating for the continuation of funding for the Sustainable Ag Land Conservation (SALC) and other beneficial agricultural programs with the California Climate and Agriculture Network. CFT and Danbom Farms have partnered to protect farmland in Merced County, which meant Paul’s perspective as a family farmer looking to preserve land in perpetuity was invaluable to this experience.
