Congratulations to CDA Board Member Andrew Robinson and the East Cut Community Benefit District! We are thrilled to celebrate The Crossing at East Cut, a dynamic pop-up park in San Francisco, for receiving the prestigious Pinnacle Award from the International Downtown Association. This incredible activation has transformed a former bus terminal into a vibrant community hub with pickleball courts, food vendors, and entertainment that has drawn over 250,000 visitors! Partnerships and innovative programs like The Crossing are vital for creating “third spaces” that support the recovery and growth of California’s downtowns. Together, we are reimagining what’s possible in our urban spaces and driving our cities forward! #CaliforniaDowntowns #Placemaking #Community #DowntownRecovery #TheCrossing #EastCutCBD #Placemangemnt

Exciting news from the California Downtown Association! Today, our board members were on the ground across the state, supporting crucial policy efforts for our downtowns and urban districts. In San Jose,?CDA President Austin Metoyer participated in a significant event where CA Governor Gavin Newsom signed a package of ten bills into law that aim to address issues such as retail theft, vandalism, and more—a key legislative victory for our Downtowns and a priority focus area for CDA. Meanwhile, CDA Board Member Josh Callery-Coyne represented the organization in San Diego, actively participating in a hearing for the State Assembly's Select Committee on Downtown Recovery, focusing on investment in the entertainment economy. We look forward to sharing more details about the committee's upcoming hearings, which will take place in cities around the state later this year. Stay tuned for the locations, dates, and times for these events. Retail Theft Legislation Fact Sheet - https://lnkd.in/gHvkAEXj

The?California Downtown Association?kicked-off the week with our first-ever Lobby Day in Sacramento. True to form, our mighty cohort of place managers hit the ground running with a jam-packed agenda that included meetings with local lawmakers at the Capitol, testifying at the State Assembly's?Select Committee on Downtown Recovery?hearing to emphasize the need for policies that can address both the immediate and long-term concerns of our downtown districts, and speaking with the State Assembly's Public Safety Committee in support of Speaker Rivas' and Assemblymember Zbur's new bill package aiming to address the rampant retail theft issue in our Downtowns and Urban Cores (Phew! ?? ). Overall, it was a successful trip with productive discussions and collaboration. We believe that by working together, we can have a positive impact on our communities and make them safer and more enjoyable places to be. Way to go team! #CDALobbyDay24? If passed, Proposition 1 would authorize $6.4 billion in bonds and allocate billions more annually towards the overhaul of our struggling mental health system, aiming to transition individuals permanently off the streets, out of tents, and into proper treatment. The California Downtown Association stands proudly alongside the Governor in endorsing Prop 1!
