The regulatory scientist functions as a coordinator who leads diverse department teams, liaises with the Fish and Game Commission, and provides procedural, regulatory, and scientific support to subject matter experts. This position works in close coordination between CDFW and Commission staff on complex and controversial biological and regulatory issues and assists with outreach for increased access and transparency to different communities and tribal nations. The position involves coordination with the entire department on a wide variety of regulatory proposals, for example, marine protected areas, hunting, commercial and recreational fishing; there’s always something new to learn! The natural resources economist functions as a data scientist and regulatory economist who analyzes fiscal and economic implications of proposed rulemakings (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, under California Fish and Game Code). This position works in close coordination between CDFW and Fish and Game Commission staff on complex and controversial biological and regulatory issues, including conducting studies and analyses of the economic and fiscal effects of proposed regulations to comply with the requirements of the Administrative Procedure Act. CDFW is seeking a Policy and Outreach Manager for the Watershed Restoration Grants Branch. The Policy and Outreach Manager functions as a specialist and is responsible for the administrative oversight and coordination of policies and procedures for restoration grant programs. The Policy and Outreach Manager personally performs the most difficult or sensitive work of grant awards and agreements, grant policy and outreach. Primary responsibilities of this position include Grant program administration support, including development and finalization of grant agreements and amendments. Other responsibilities include web content management, overseeing and developing content for grant program web pages, intranet and email newsletters. This position also includes assignments regarding grant guidelines and policy evaluation and development, including collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate efforts and providing strategic input. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with strong organizational and leadership skill sets, who can collaborate across programs to provide solutions towards a common goal.
