A woman is killed by acts of gender-based violence every 10 minutes. According to the UN, an estimated 736 million women have experienced physical and sexual violence worldwide, and 1 in 4 adolescent girls are abused by their partners. These statistics reflect only reported cases, as many acts of violence against women go unreported due to the shame and stigma associated with such experiences. Gender-based violence disproportionately affects women and takes many forms, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and tech-facilitated violence, both on and offline. Women need strong protections that hold offenders accountable. The Commission honors the millions of women lost their lives to gender-based violence and remains committed to fighting for a future where all women can thrive. #NoExcuse #GenderBasedViolence

Established as a state agency with 17 appointed commissioners in 1965, the Commission regularly assesses gender equity in health, safety, employment, education and equal representation, the military, and the media. The Commission provides leadership through research, policy and program development, education, outreach and collaboration, advocacy and strategic partnerships. Mission Statement: The Commission on the Status of Women and Girls works in a culturally inclusive manner to promote equality and justice for all women and girls by advocating on their behalf with the Governor, the Legislature and other public policymakers, and by educating the public in the areas of economic equity including educational equity, access to health care including reproductive choice, violence against women and other key issue areas identified by the Commission as significantly affecting women and girls.

We were thrilled to attend California Women Lead 2024 Annual Conference: Power Up on Friday, November 15, celebrating California Women Lead’s 50th?anniversary. Our Executive Director Darcy Totten connected with some of the most inspiring women leaders including Emma Heming Willis, Co-Founder and Chief Strategist of Make Time Wellness, a fierce advocate for the 11 million unpaid caregivers caring for loved ones battling Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia. According to the National Council on Aging, 6 million adults aged 65 and over have?Alzheimer’s Disease—a number that’s expected to nearly double by 2050. About 66 percent of the 11 million unpaid caregivers are women and are often the sole providers for their household. Make Time Wellness is leading the conversation on women’s brain health through research and education and offering wellness products backed by science, encouraging women to prioritize their brain health and self-care. #womensbrainhealth?#maketimewellness?#alzheimers #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth

We had such a great experience at the California Women Lead 2024 Annual Conference Power Up on Friday November 15, connecting with incredible women leaders in government and business including State Controller Malia Cohen, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager, LA County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and Co-Founder of Make Time Wellness, Emma Heming Willis. The Conference emphasized the significant role women play as decision-makers in their businesses, and communities. State Controller Cohen underscored the economic power women have as decision-makers in their households, encouraging women to support companies that promote gender equality and to source from women-owned businesses. Executive Director Darcy Totten and Special Projects Manager Jennifer DeGrossa shared insight on the achievements and challenges of the Women’s Recovery Response Grant. The one-time grant represents the first time the state of California has dedicated resources, under the oversight of the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, to the specific needs of women impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, the grant has provided direct services to 90,510 women and girls, 4,177 domestic violence survivors, 1,610 veterans, 1,132 LGBTQIA+ individuals, and 26,930 unhoused and low-income women. The successes of the grant amplify the need to continually?invest in women and girls that they may thrive. The conference reminded us about the power of community, collaboration, and resilience. The conversations encouraged us to develop our personal brands and money mindset, how to communicate with colleagues from diverse generational backgrounds, and to prioritize our mental and brain health. We left feeling energized and ready to lead in spaces that were not originally designed for women, determined to create spaces for greater inclusion and equity. #WomenInLeadership #WomenAreEssential

"In angel investing, just as in sports, teamwork is often a key to success. In our 20 years of experience, we’ve become believers in approaching angel investing as a team sport. While many investors prefer to go solo, a significant number are increasingly gravitating toward groups and networks. One motivation that we hear from members is the collective wisdom and collaborative edge that a group offers." https://lnkd.in/gnsGRFdu
