California State Parks Hosts Traveling Art Exhibit Showcasing Student Art at Casa Gutierrez Gallery (Monterey) The public is invited to experience the California Coastal Commission’s traveling art exhibit at the Casa Gutierrez Art Gallery in downtown Monterey. This special exhibition will showcase a curated collection of student artwork from the Coastal Commission's Annual Student Art and Poetry Contest. The exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, from March 15 through June 28, 2025. Don't miss the chance to explore the creative expressions of young artists celebrating California’s coastal beauty. One of the pieces featured in this exhibit was created by a local student when he was in kindergarten. This student's stunning artwork, Sunset Whale Tail, is also displayed on signage at the trailhead near the main parking lot at Fort Ord Dunes State Park. The exhibit showcases artwork created by K-12 students who have participated in recent years' contests. It offers a powerful glimpse into the perspectives of young artists, reflecting their deep love for the Pacific Ocean and their concern for its preservation. Through original artwork and poetry, the students capture the essence of California’s coastal and oceanic beauty, highlighting the profound connection between the ocean and those who call California home. Each piece is a heartfelt expression of their creativity and commitment to protecting the environment. #californiacoastalcommission #californiacoast #protectourcoastandocean

The next California Coastal Commission meeting will be held March 12-14, 2025, at the Courtyard Marriott Santa Cruz, 313 Riverside Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Commission meetings occur once a month in different locations within California to facilitate public participation. Staff attempts, whenever possible, to schedule matters for hearings that will be relatively close to the location of a proposed development. However, legal deadlines for action may require that the hearing on an item takes place in a different area than the proposed project. The California Coastal Commission is governed by the California Coastal Act. One of the main mandates of the Act is to maximize public access. Find details on over 1,500 publicly accessible beaches and coastal destinations: https://lnkd.in/gd5ifDrS. photo: A wooden boardwalk curves through dunes on the way to the beach. The boardwalk protects native dune plants from people walking by while allowing people to access the beach and enjoy the dunes. #coastalaccess #accessiblecoast #californiacoastalcommission #thankyoucoastalact

California Coastal Commission Awards 53 New Whale Tail Grants: https://conta.cc/3Quzyy1 “These Whale Tail grants reflect California’s love for the coast and commitment to protecting it for future generations,” said Coastal Commission Chair Justin Cummings. Since 1998, the Commission has awarded over $25 million to more than 1,000 grants, primarily for projects that provide opportunities for inland, rural, and historically excluded communities to experience and learn about the coast and ocean and develop leadership, stewardship, and science-based skills. In 2021, the Legislature appropriated $10 million for the Whale Tail Grant Program, and this is the final round of grants that will be significantly enhanced by that funding. #whaletailgrants #protectourcoastandocean #californiacoastalcommission #californiacoast WT highlights: https://lnkd.in/gkp2qYpp
