Our digester projects are on track to cut approximately 1.5 million metric tons of CO?e annually by converting methane into renewable energy—a success driven by CARB’s climate leadership. Anaerobic digesters are a key solution to reducing methane emissions, which are nearly 80 times more harmful than CO? over 20 years. ? We support the #LCFS program for its impressive impact, drastically outperforming its original goal of reducing transportation sector emissions by 20% by 2030. It is critical to build on this momentum and adopt the proposed regulation which sets even more aggressive GHG reduction targets. CARB’s timely LCFS updates provide investment certainty for clean fuel projects essential to achieving California’s 2045 carbon neutrality goal. Beyond environmental benefits, the LCFS improves health for Californians; CARB estimates $5 billion in statewide health savings due to reduced pollution. The LCFS also supports heavy-duty transport decarbonization while accelerating passenger EV adoption. ? This week, the California Cattle Council released a critical report conducted by ERA Economics, “Economic Analysis of California Dairy Consolidation, Attrition, and Policy Leakage.”?The data driven analysis examined industry trends and the potential impacts of direct regulation of dairy methane emissions. Key findings include: ?? Statistical tests found NO evidence that adoption of dairy digesters is causing consolidation to larger dairies. Consolidation is driven by other factors. ?? Eliminating Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits and directly regulating methane emissions would cause: ? $675 million in direct annual net losses to California dairies, not including impacts to local communities or other businesses, ? Significant emissions leakage of 1.43 MMTCO2e as milk production shifts to other states, ? Abandoned digester projects, resulting in loss of an additional 2.44 to 3.51 MMTCO2e. ??
