We're thrilled to announce the introduction of AB 954 by Assemblymember Steve Bennett, a transformative piece of legislation set to pilot the development of dedicated bike highways in California. This initiative aims to provide people on bikes with safe, high-capacity routes that connect major destinations and transit hubs, supporting longer-distance bike travel and contributing to the state's decarbonization goals. Join us in supporting this pivotal move towards a more sustainable and connected California. Read more about how this legislation will pave the way for safer and more accessible biking across the state. https://lnkd.in/gT9gxfa5

Equitable, inclusive, and prosperous communities where bicycling helps to enable all Californians to lead healthy lives.
关于我们
The California Bicycle Coalition enables more people to bicycle for healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities for all. We envision millions of people riding bikes every day in California. Networks of safe streets and paths conveniently connect every destination. People of all ages and abilities enjoy the health and happiness that comes from bicycling. Our local communities are stronger economically thanks to less automobile dependence. Traffic-related injuries are less common and less severe, and fatalities are rare. California is a national model for sustainable transportation.

Every two years, CalBike hosts the?California Bicycle Summit, bringing together advocates, planners, agency staffers, and members of the bicycle community to share insights and dream up a future full of bicycles. We are launching a series of free virtual sessions to bring our community together for thought-provoking and insightful discussions year-round. The first virtual summit session will be February 20 at noon, and is titled “Creative Approaches to Funding Active Transportation Infrastructure.” The new administration in Washington makes it likely that federal funding for active transportation projects will decrease. But local governments and bicycle advocates can still find creative ways to fund infrastructure, planning, and education projects. The session will also address alternatives for funding active transportation infrastructure beyond the Active Transportation Program (ATP), which routinely has far more applications than it can fund. This morning, the League of American Bicyclists announced the 2025 class of Bicycle Friendly Communities, 4 of which are in California! We are delighted to see Chico renew their Gold designation, Livermore and Santa Clara achieve Bronze, and Altadena achieve Honorable Mention for their efforts. The BFC program is both data-driven and qualitative, with advocates like CalBike invited to weigh in. We would love to see more communities in California commit to improving their policies, infrastructure, and culture for bicycling! If your community is not on the list, let them know they shoudl apply! Learn more about what it takes to be a BFC: https://lnkd.in/gsD62tmw #bicyclefriendlycommunities #bicycling

People bicycling and walking are being seriously injured and killed disproportionately to their numbers on our roads. In a recent post, California Bicycle Coalition policy director Jared Sanchez explores whether establishing a vulnerable road user statue could help. #vulnerableroaduser #bicycling #roadsafety #visionzero

CalBike is calling on California's legislature to significantly boost funding for the Active Transportation Program (ATP). While we appreciate Governor Newsom's effort to maintain ATP funding, it’s clear that much more is needed to transition away from carbon-heavy infrastructure. Investing in bike lanes, sidewalks, and bus-only lanes is cost-effective and crucial for combating climate change and enhancing community wellbeing. It's time for California to prioritize sustainable and safe transportation solutions that address today's climate challenges head-on.

We are excited to have Christopher Kidd back on our board of directors! Bringing knowledge from his work in both public and private sectors doing active transportation planning, he also brings institutional knowledge from his prior service on our board. Welcome, Christopher!
If you're subscribed to the California Bicycle Coalition newsletter, you might have seen the news yesterday - but I wanted to share that I've officially re-joined the Board of CalBike. After a stint on the board from 2013-2016, I'm so excited to return to an organization that has driven so many state-level advances for active transportation, mobility justice, and sustainable communities. With an incoming federal administration actively hostile to active transportation, strong leadership at the state level will be critical over the next four years.

??At last month’s Zero-Emission Showcase and Ride & Drive event in Pomona, CA, the eTRUC team met with dozens of fleets and OEMs to discuss the industry’s transition to zero-emission vehicles and the project’s Advanced Transportation Research Center, now open for EV charging. The team test drove ZEV trucks that will travel along the same key freight corridors eTRUC is currently planning and developing charging infrastructure for. California Bicycle Advocates Call on Elected Leaders to Protect E-Bike Riders by Curbing Illegal Electric Motorcycles As vehicular fatalities rise, we face an increase in illegal electric motorcycles that are often mistaken for legal e-bikes. Bicycle advocacy groups across California are urging state legislators to focus efforts on these illegal vehicles, which are unlicensed and faster, causing confusion among both consumers and law enforcement. The current local laws targeting e-bike riders fail to address the true issue—these illegally operated electric motorcycles. Our call is clear: - Prioritize curtailing illegal electric motorcycles. - Enhance road safety infrastructure. - Increase educational efforts for all road users. - Enforce truth in advertising to accurately market electric mobility devices. - Increase funding for active transportation to create safer environments for biking and walking. - Modernize driver education to better accommodate changes in road usage and transportation modes. We advocate for sensible legislation that upholds safety for all and supports the responsible use of e-bikes. Join us in this crucial movement. Read on here; https://lnkd.in/gB6hq_m4
