Across the U.S., outdated gas pipelines are posing costly challenges for a clean energy future. Some states are taking bold steps to address it—each with a unique approach. California’s SB 1221 gives communities the power to opt out of gas altogether, funding electrification to eliminate the need for gas replacements. Meanwhile, Eversource Energy in Massachusetts is piloting networked geothermal in Framingham, a sustainable system connecting homes and buildings, saving costs and emissions alike. From community-based electrification to geothermal networks, these projects could be the blueprint for a cleaner, greener future.
