In the words of our CEO and President, Miguel A. Santana, "Bob Ross's impact on philanthropy in California and nationally is revolutionary. Instead of charity from the privileged to the poor, he flipped the script. He challenged us to believe that the billions we steward belong to the people and to trust that those most proximate to the issues and injustice will know where and how the investments should be made. Because of Bob, there is no going back to the top-down philanthropy of the past.” Read more about Bob Ross’s legacy and his enduring impact in this piece by Gustavo Arellano at the LA Times: https://lnkd.in/gkmaEsuX #CCFImpact #Philanthropy #SocialJustice #Leadership

This Labor Day, we invite you to reflect on the invaluable contributions of immigrants, who are the backbone of L.A. County’s workforce. With over 3.5 million immigrants calling this region home, they play essential roles across all sectors—from healthcare to construction—fueling our economy and enriching our communities. As we honor the hard work that drives our society, let’s recommit to supporting immigrant workers by advocating for equitable opportunities and policies that acknowledge their vital contributions. Their success is our collective success. To learn more, read the State of Immigrants in Los Angeles County (SOILA) report, released at our Immigration Summit in July by the USC Equity Research Institute (ERI). The LA Civil Rights Department (@lacivilrights), in partnership with @csunorthridge and Mockingbird Analytics, has released a groundbreaking report, "An Examination of African American Experiences in Los Angeles." This comprehensive study traces over 100 years of systemic racial harms faced by African American communities in LA, revealing deep-rooted disparities in housing, health, education, and policing. The report highlights 12 key areas of harm and provides recommendations for reparative justice. We applaud City leaders, including @MayorofLA, Council President Pro-Tem Harris Dawson (@mhdcd8), and Councilmembers Curren Price (@currendpricejr) and Councilmember Heather Hutt (@cw_heather.hutt), for their steadfast leadership on this work. It’s time to confront these injustices to create the thriving and inclusive Los Angeles we all want to see. The California Community Foundation stands ready to support the critical work that lies ahead. Together, we can build a more equitable future. Judy Belk is a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on our communities and philanthropy during her tenure as President and CEO of the @CaliforniaWellnessFoundation. Our CCF President and CEO, Miguel A. Santana, reflected on her recent piece in @InsidePhilanthropy, where she shared wise reflections and some advice for the new class of philanthropic leaders. “Judy always makes it a point to fight for what is right and to say what needs to be said - not what is easy. She is not afraid to challenge the status quo and drive bold change for justice, regardless of the obstacles. As a mentor and friend, I appreciate her advice, particularly on reimagining foundation advocacy. "The stakes are high in the outcome of the November election for philanthropy fulfilling its mission and essential role of civil society."?At CCF, we have taken this call seriously, leading on Measure A, a citizen-driven, countywide ballot measure that will reform the delivery of homeless services and make housing more affordable. I am honored to be part of the new generation of philanthropic leaders, following in the footsteps of transformative visionaries like Judy, Bob Ross, and Antonia Hernandez.?I am grateful?for their extraordinary contributions to our field and our communities. Their legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
