Our staff recently visited farms in the Imperial Valley to explore the water-saving innovations and soil health practices that local farmers are adopting to address climate challenges. On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose words continue to inspire people across generations. During their plenary speech at our Summit last October, Renata Brillinger, Executive Director of CalCAN, opened with this powerful quote from Dr. King: “Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” As we reflect on those words, we are reminded of the importance of balancing both love and power to create a more just, equitable, and compassionate world.

The Governor's proposed FY25-26 budget shows a small surplus compared to the severe deficits of the past two years. However, the proposed budget lacks new general fund investments for programs CalCAN has historically advocated for. Fortunately, due to our years of advocacy with the Food and Farm Resilience Coalition, funds from Prop 4 are expected to provide much-needed support for many of these programs. You will play a central role by managing the administrative, financial, and technological functions. ?????????? ???????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? @ CalClimateAg.org/Careers/

?? The passing of Prop 4 is a win for California’s food system and a major step forward for climate resilience! By investing in sustainable agriculture, we’re ensuring that farmers, farmworkers, and rural communities have the tools and resources to withstand and adapt to the increasing challenges of climate change. The effort of the Food and Farm Reslience Coalition & our legislative champions Asm. Lori Wilson and CA Speaker Robert Rivas significantly influenced bond negotiations and resulted in over $1 billion of the coalition’s priorities being reflected in Proposition 4. While we take a moment to enjoy the success of Prop 4, we will soon transition into guiding and informing the implementation of these investments and new programs in the coming months!
