  • The Story of the Calaveras Watershed In Calaveras County, the journey of the Calaveras River Watershed begins at White Pines Lake, near the towering giants of the North Grove Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Creeks like Big Trees Creek and San Antonio Creek converge to form the mighty Calaveras River, flowing into New Hogan Lake Reservoir—a vital resource for the region. From the original Hogan Dam in the 1930s to the devastating Christmas floods of 1955, the watershed has been central to the county’s resilience. Today, the New Hogan Dam and Jenny Lind Water Treatment Plant ensure clean, reliable water for our community. White Pines Lake, New Hogan Lake, and the Calaveras River are more than landmarks—they’re the foundation of our homes, businesses, and ecosystems. Join us in celebrating the history, beauty, and importance of the Calaveras Watershed!

  • Did you know your water in the Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass area takes an epic journey before reaching your faucet? It starts high in the mountains at Spicer Reservoir, flows down the Stanislaus River, past the towering Big Trees, and stops at McKays Reservoir before getting sparkling clean at the treatment plant. Every sip is part of nature’s incredible adventure!
