We are a month deep in 2025 and a few inches deep in snow (at least here in NYC). A lot has happened in the world since our last newsletter. And when things are moving this fast, staying focused on what truly matters can feel like trying to read?War and Peace?while keeping up with Kendrick and Drake. ? That's why, this month, we are talking priorities—specifically, how you can keep your priorities straight in the dizzying race to change, adapt, and innovate. In this issue of the Slice ??, we discuss: - The critical work of prioritization and why many businesses get it wrong - Algorithmic rot at Spotify as a cautionary tale of what happens when prioritization ignores customer needs in favor of short-term gains -Avoiding common prioritization pitfalls #Prioritization #ProductStrategy #ProductRoadmaps #CustomerExperience #AIandBusiness #InsuranceInnovation #Alogrithmicrot

Research op with us and Highwing below!
What if your client’s submission, quote and policy data passed between broker and carrier digitally instead of through emails & attachments?? What if the market cycle could move faster and there were no errors from manual rekeying?? What if all that data that sits in your inbox could be used to identify trends that help with negotiation and optimizing coverage, terms & conditions?? The data foundation of Highwing allows for all of this while keeping the broker and underwriter involved, efficient and in sync. For the last couple of months we’ve been working with Cake & Arrow, a customer experience design firm, to rethink the Highwing experience for our target users - account managers, client executives, and placement coordinators.? Soon they will begin interviewing target users who aren't using Highwing (yet!) but understand the day-to-day challenges of managing accounts and placements. -The user sessions will take about 60 mins. -The goal will be to assess user experience, explore user mindsets and needs, and gather ideas to make Highwing an even more effective tool. -No preparation or prior knowledge of Highwing is required—during the session, the Cake & Arrow team will guide you through interactive exercises in a prototype environment. -These sessions are meant to be informal and candid, and the information you share will be used to help drive the work forward, ensuring Highwing can better meet customer needs. If you work in the commercial insurance space, and have experience on the broker side as an account manager, client executive, placement coordinator or are similarly involved in the insurance placement process, please DM me and I'll share the registration link for you to participate!

In an industry often defined by policies and paperwork, how do we bridge the gap between abstract insurance products and the real-world lives they impact? Insurance products can feel complex and intangible, making it hard for customers to understand their value or see how a policy works in real life. And while traditional market research may capture what people think, it often misses how they truly experience insurance. ? Join us this Wednesday at 12:00 ET ??for a webinar where we’ll share how to use Design Thinking techniques to uncover real reactions, identify confusion points, and guide the creation of more intuitive, human-centered products. Here's what we'll cover: →?Case studies showing how insurers can go beyond surface-level insights to uncover deeper insights into customer needs? →?How techniques like sketching, storyboarding, and collaborative ideation bring insurance concepts to life →?Practical strategies for getting actionable feedback on concrete ideas from real users and customers? →?How to make insurance offerings feel less abstract and more meaningful to customers ???? Can #DesignThinking save insurance? As insurance stands at the epicenter of a wave of colossal societal shifts—in climate, economics, health, policy, and technology—the industry’s need for Design Thinking is greater than ever. Despite recent backlash, we believe that Design Thinking has the potential to drive meaningful change in insurance, especially when it’s applied not just to enhance individual experiences but to tackle broader societal needs. In this issue of ?? The Slice, we explore how a true commitment to Design Thinking could transform the industry: ?? Transformation vs. makeover: Why insurance needs more than surface-level fixes—and how Design Thinking can fuel real change. ??Lessons from healthcare: What can be learned from healthcare’s journey to infuse empathy and address complex systemic issues. ?? Our team’s take: Has Design Thinking lost its lustre, or can it truly make insurance more transparent, accessible, and trusted? With so many societal changes converging, Design Thinking could be the compass that helps insurance remain relevant, resilient, and impactful. #DesignThinking #insurance #CX #insurtech #customerexperience #insuranceDesign #industrytransformation
