UPDATE | Our $60 million Eastern Aviation Precinct is taking shape, and we’re excited to unveil the significant progress that’s occurred over recent months! This major, long-term project isn’t visible from the main road to Cairns Airport, but we’re pleased to share behind-the-scenes photos provided by local contractors HEH Civil Pty Ltd who are delivering the preliminary earthworks phase, including placement of more than 400,000 tonnes of fill. Since work began in July last year, more than 170,000 tonnes of fill have been delivered to the site, and we are now carting roughly 12,000 tonnes to the site per week, depending on the weather. The first stage of the project is due for completion in May 2025. The Eastern Aviation Precinct will provide purpose-built resilient infrastructure for local operators, enabling airport partners and other key industries to grow their businesses and explore new opportunities. It will also include: ? Four new aeronautical stands ? Aeromedical and emergency response facilities ? Aircraft maintenance and repair resources, including a 10,000m2 common-user hangar and co-located training facility ? New dedicated base for helicopter operators The precinct is being built on an already-cleared area of land. Construction will follow a staged approach, with completion of the aeronautical stands expected in 2027. This development is assisted by the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF). COLLABORATION | It has been a great start to the year with our airline partner Jetstar Airways announcing more than 25,000 additional seats on domestic routes to Cairns! ? This significant increase is the result of more flights and larger aircraft being deployed on services from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Effective from February through to June 2025, these thousands of additional seats will provide further, affordable flight options for holidaymakers, business travellers and those visiting family and friends during Easter and the school holidays. It follows the highly anticipated arrival last month of Jetstar’s direct flights from the Sunshine Coast, operating three times a week.? ? Significant developments are also in the pipeline on Jetstar’s Cairns-bound international routes. We are looking forward to welcoming non-stop services from Christchurch on April 1, connecting the two regions with direct flights for the first time. Meanwhile, Jetstar’s flights to Bali will soon be able to carry even more holidaymakers, with the route being serviced by the A321neo aircraft from the end of March, increasing seat capacity by 25 per in comparison to the current A320 operations. ? #thisisqueensland #cairnsairport #regionalconnectivity #internationalaviation #airline
