We’re excited to introduce Ahmad Badr and Dr. Dina Ezzeddine as the newest members of CAIR-SFBA’s Governance Board. Ahmad’s work in product design and leadership is deeply connected to his passion for workplace advocacy, community service, and increasing Muslim representation in tech. His longstanding involvement in youth development and activism makes him a valuable addition to our leadership. Dr. Ezzeddine, a gastroenterologist based in Berkeley, has spent the past decade at the forefront of social justice efforts in the Bay Area. She is a strong advocate for healthcare and housing as fundamental rights and believes in collective action to address systemic inequities. Their expertise and dedication will strengthen CAIR-SFBA’s mission to serve and uplift our communities. Please join us in welcoming them!

On Wednesday, March 19, the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA)’s largest policy-making body, the House of Representatives,?overwhelmingly voted in favor of two critical motions supporting resistance to fascism and genocide. The first motion?supports opposition to California Assembly Bill 1468—a deeply problematic bill designed to undermine and police ethnic studies in California. AB 1468 sets a dangerous precedent for the state to choose which aspects of history are taught and which are silenced. The second motion?urges the LA Unified School District to drop the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)?as a partner in professional development and to reject promoting or adopting their curriculum in LA schools.

"The mounting anxiety over another travel ban comes during?the holy month of Ramadan,?when more Muslims are attending congregational prayers. Zahra Billoo, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of the San Francisco Bay Area, and her colleagues have been visiting mosques nightly to inform people about the risks facing Muslims under the Trump administration. “And every single night, I have been approached by one or more people asking about the safety of their upcoming travel,” she said, adding that CAIR is advising people to pause international travel plans for 30 days until the outlines of a travel ban become clear and encouraging visa holders outside the country to return as soon as possible."
