As we kick off National Careers Week 2025, we’re reminded that the things you like to do and the reasons why you choose to do them play a key role in our lives and even more so when thinking about the future. Quite often people struggle when it comes to talking about hobbies and interests, but let's change the narrative. You may not be part of a football team or have a list of immediate interests that you can roll off, but we all have things that we do that highlight who we are. What does our City Centre need? During our retail sector sessions, we ask young people to share their thoughts on what’s missing from Plymouth’s City Centre and how it could be improved. From new social hubs to greater support for the vulnerable, their ideas highlight the changes that could make the city a better place to live, grow and work. What a fantastic day at Paignton Zoo today for day 3 of the year 10 experience of the workplace week. Today we were joined by Tiffanie Kavanagh Stacey Woodruff and Amber Watson who ran the most amazing day linked to the Health Care sector. No two weeks are the same in the Caerus Official office, but this one felt particularly special. Working with young people and adults across Plymouth has given us valuable insights that shape our direction; every encounter matters. So when Devon, Plymouth & Torbay Careers Hub invited us to promote the healthcare sector across the region, we teamed up with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and took our work to an incredible setting - Paignton Zoo Environmental Park. With students from Paignton, Torquay and Dartmouth secondary schools, we explored the hidden gems of this vital sector. A room full of eager minds, discovering new possibilities, leaving with a sense of confidence that they can take on the world, that’s what fuels our purpose. And as a bonus? Chatting with zookeepers about their own skills and getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the zoo. What an opportunity! A couple of our favourite moments from National Apprenticeship Week 2025! It was a truly wonderful evening at the City College Plymouth Apprentice Awards at Plymouth Argyle Football Club on Thursday, celebrating not just the winners but also the incredible achievements of all apprentices, with plenty of laughter and inspiring messages. Following the all-round excitement of this, we hosted a dynamic session with some of the City College Plymouth Apprentices on Friday. The group explored how to extract ‘skill DNA’ from both work and home life, reflecting on who they are as much as what they do. What a brilliant way to round off a busy, thought-provoking week! Last week, we were excited to run our second Caerus on Campus pilot session with students from the ESOL course at City College Plymouth! Alongside the workbook, the session featured a series of interactive activities designed to help students explore and develop key skills, qualities and behaviours essential for their personal and professional growth. It’s been fantastic to see the positive engagement from everyone involved, with each activity sparking thoughtful discussions and building confidence. My Day at the National Career Guidance Shows as a Marketing Apprentice for Caerus! Held at Sandy Park in Exeter, it was a jam-packed day where I had the opportunity to dive deep into the world of careers, gaining invaluable insights from a range of informative seminars. Networking with employers from diverse industries was a highlight – it was great to connect with so many employers and learn more about the wider careers landscape.
