The California Department of Education, Human Resources Division, Payroll and Benefits Office is seeking an enthusiastic individual skills to serve as a Personnel Supervisor I. In this position, you will be responsible for all personnel transactions operations for the California Department of Education (CDE). The Personnel Supervisor I maintains day to day operations for the Transactions Office, acts independently and responds to inquiries from staff and the public, assists supervisory and managerial staff with Personnel related questions, concerns and issues on a timely basis. The incumbent directly supervises six (6) Personnel Specialists performing personnel transactions in payroll, appointments, separations, attendance, health benefits and related functions. Reviews work products and is responsible for ensuring all transactions staff are trained and knowledgeable in technical aspects of their positions as well as continually keeping staff informed of changes, interpretations and issues which may impact the areas of responsibility. Monitors employee performance, prepares and reviews performance evaluations, effectively identifies and takes corrective actions to remedy performance deficiencies, recruits and recommends selections of staff. This position also performs second level review of all retirement transactions including calculations of lump sums. Provides second level review of work products generated from the personnel specialists. Monitors important transaction timelines to ensure that the department is in compliance. The school provides intensive, disability-specific educational services for pupils who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind.
