As we conclude our Veterans Month series, we’re honored to spotlight Tyler Earle, Vice President, and Business Unit Leader in our Austin office. Tyler served in the United States Navy from 2005 to 2010 as a Petty Officer 3rd Class, much of his time in service was spent deployed to Iraq. His years in service taught him the value of resilience, discipline, and leading with purpose—lessons that continue to shape his work and inspire those around him. Tyler’s passion for construction was sparked by his grandfather, who owned a construction company. Watching his grandfather put people above profit instilled in Tyler a deep appreciation for the human side of this industry. After his military service, he carried forward those values, along with the perspective his time in the Navy gave him: "The world is so much bigger than we realize. You have to meet people where they are and appreciate every day as a gift, because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. " Tyler’s deep commitment to his veteran brothers and sisters was a driving force behind executing this social media campaign. For him, Veterans Day is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a heartfelt promise to remember, honor, and ensure that the sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten. "It’s about honoring those who served, especially those we’ve lost. We have a responsibility to make sure future generations understand the freedoms they enjoy came at a cost, and the men and women who paid that cost." Tyler experienced the severity of cost first-hand through his time serving in active combat zones and the aftermath of those who returned with hidden scars. His advice for veterans transitioning to civilian life and the construction industry? "Lean on the skills the military gave you—discipline, teamwork, and the ability to overcome challenges. This industry is hungry for people willing to do the hard things and lead with integrity.” The Navy didn’t just shape Tyler as a leader in construction—it shaped him as a person who leads by example, even in the most high-pressure moments. In 2008, Tyler witnessed a severe car accident. Drawing on his military training, he stepped into action and helped save three lives. “It’s not an easy thing to go into harm’s way to help someone,” said Chief Petty Officer Dexter V. Parrish, Tyler’s senior leader at that time. “The pressure was high, and a lot of other people would have buckled under that pressure. He’s a very unassuming kind of guy, and those are the kind of people you expect great things from and get the greatest results from.” Learn more about Tyler’s life-saving actions and how they reflect both his Navy training and his natural calling to help others: https://bit.ly/3CzjCHp Tyler, we’re grateful for your service, your leadership, and your unwavering courage. Thank you for inspiring us all to lead with heart and honor. ?????? #VeteransDay #ThankYouForYourService #CadenceMcShane #VeteransMonth #LeadershipWithHeart

  • As part of our Veterans Month series, we’re honored to share the story of Mark A. Williams, whose dedication to integrity and teamwork shines in his work at Cadence McShane. Mark, a Project Engineer currently working on the Dallas College Mountain View Campus project, has proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for nearly a decade. Trained as a plumber in the Army, Mark deployed to Afghanistan, where he served as both a Sergeant and a Cadet platoon leader. In these roles, he not only led but also developed essential skills in communication and integrity—qualities he brings to our team every day. Joining the construction industry was a natural transition for Mark, given his roots in the Army’s engineer corps. His mentors in the military taught him that leadership in the field requires both command presence and a listening ear, a balance he now applies on Cadence McShane sites. “Discipline is what gets me out of bed every morning, ready to work hard with a positive attitude,” Mark shares. “Teamwork creates cohesion and keeps my environment as positive as I am.” For Mark, Veterans Day is a moment to reflect on his 18-year-old self, who first raised his hand before God and the flag, joining a community of like-minded individuals committed to selfless service. He’s grateful for the camaraderie and lifelong connections built through shared experiences. His advice to fellow veterans entering the construction industry? “Construction is the perfect place for those who value structure, want something new every day, and aim to shape lives through what they build.” We’re proud to have Mark on our team, and we’re grateful for the dedication he and all veterans bring to our industry. Stay tuned for more of our veterans’ stories throughout the month. #VeteransDay #CadenceMcShaneVeterans #ArmyReserve #ConstructionLeadership #VeteranStories

  • At Cadence McShane, we’re proud to recognize Donald Watkins, our Director of Business Development, and a United States Navy veteran. Don served as a Radioman 2nd Class (E-5) from 1980 to 1984, stationed on the Guided Missile Destroyer “Joseph Strauss” out of Pearl Harbor. His role in the Navy was all about communication—managing incoming and outgoing messages during operations with foreign navies and U.S. presence missions across the Pacific. Don’s service took him to San Francisco, Guam, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan, where his team played a key role in international operations. After leaving the Navy, Don's career took an unexpected path into the construction industry. While attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney, he worked part-time for an environmental company, which sparked his interest in the AEC sector. Over the last 40 years, Don’s career has spanned environmental work, architecture, engineering, and now business development, where he plays a pivotal role at Cadence McShane. The lessons Don learned in the Navy, especially in communication, discipline, and the importance of teamwork, have been integral to his success. "In the Navy, I learned that every person is important, no matter their position," Don says. "That same mindset is crucial in construction. When given a task, you salute proudly and find a way to accomplish it." For Don, Veterans Day is personal. His father served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, and his uncle landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day. Veterans Day is a time to honor their sacrifices and the countless other servicemen and women who have fought for our freedom. Don’s advice to veterans transitioning into construction? "The sense of camaraderie and teamwork you experienced in the military can be found here in the construction industry. Embrace it." We’re honored to have Don’s leadership and dedication on our team. Stay tuned as we continue to highlight more of our incredible veterans this month! #VeteransDay #CadenceMcShaneVeterans #NavyVeteran #LeadershipInConstruction #VeteranStories

  • On this Veterans Day, we’re proud to pause, reflect, and honor the extraordinary commitment of veterans like Andrea Hughes, whose dedication continues to make an impact here at Cadence McShane. Andrea, now a Project Manager, began her career as an Engineer Officer in the U.S. Army. She served over four years active duty, including a deployment in Iraq where she led a horizontal construction platoon of 28 soldiers. Her service took her from Schofield Barracks in Hawaii to Ramadi, Fallujah, and Kuwait, where she stayed behind to coordinate the safe return of sensitive equipment after her team’s year-long mission. Following her deployment, Andrea took on leadership roles in Hawaii, Japan, and Kentucky, later commanding a drill sergeant reserve unit. For Andrea, the transition from military service to the construction industry felt natural. Her Army experience, heavy in earthmoving and concrete work, inspired her to continue in the field. “In the military, you have a mission and a deadline. My team and I would use all resources at our disposal to complete the mission safely, often thinking outside the box to get the job done,” Andrea reflects. Today, she brings that same dedication to every Cadence McShane project, focused on keeping morale high and fostering team cohesion to deliver quality results. Veterans Day is a meaningful day for Andrea—a time to reflect on her journey, connect with those she served alongside, and honor the friendships that have continued beyond the Army. Her advice for veterans transitioning into construction? "Lead from the front, be transparent, and never stop learning or teaching. We fail as leaders when our team no longer thinks we care.” Andrea’s commitment to teamwork, transparency, and constant growth is a guiding force here at Cadence McShane, and we’re grateful to have her leadership. Stay tuned as we highlight more veterans on our team throughout the month! #VeteransDay #CadenceMcShaneVeterans #ArmyVeteran #LeadershipInConstruction #VeteranStories

Today, we’re proud to introduce Warren R. Ruiz LEED AP BD+C, Senior Project Manager at Cadence McShane. Warren dedicated several years to the U.S. Marine Corps, where he trained as a Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator with the 1st 8” Howitzer Battery, 4th Battalion, 11th Marines, at 29 Palms, CA. Reflecting on his time in the Corps, Warren says, “The Marine Corps saved my life and shaped my core character.” The values instilled in him through the Marines—like honor, courage, and commitment—are closely aligned with Cadence McShane’s principles. Warren brings the tenacity and perseverance he developed in the military to every project he leads. As Veterans Day approaches, Warren shares, “For me, there are two days that are non-negotiable: Veterans Day, which I’ve earned, and Memorial Day, which I owe. Veterans Day is a time to honor all who have committed themselves to service, while Memorial Day is a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice." To those transitioning from military to civilian life, Warren offers this advice: “You don’t walk alone. Be patient with yourself. Transitioning can be challenging, but it’s a journey you don’t have to face alone.” Stay tuned throughout the month as we continue to honor the veterans of Cadence McShane.

  • At Cadence McShane, we’re proud to spotlight Hector Castro, an outstanding Assistant Superintendent in San Antonio, and a proud United States Marine Corps veteran. Hector served from 2001 to 2005, specializing in field artillery before shifting to convoy security on his second and third tours in Iraq. His service took him to Nasiriyah, Ramadi, and Al-Fallujah. Hector’s unit was part of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, a team marked by its special operations capability, and he witnessed firsthand the harsh realities of war. When Hector transitioned back to civilian life, like many veterans, he faced challenges. But it was through electrical work that he found his next calling. He often compares it to art—each project a blank canvas, every wire and circuit carefully placed to bring a structure to life. His military leadership training helped him rise quickly in the electrical trade, and today, those same skills make him a valuable leader on the construction site. Hector’s ability to adapt, think on his feet, and lead his team under pressure mirrors what he learned leading Marines in combat. For Hector, Veterans Day holds deep meaning. It’s a time to reflect on the freedom he fought for and honor the comrades who never made it home. "I will always cherish the memories I had with my fallen brothers," Hector says, "and I’ll forever be grateful for their ultimate sacrifice." Hector’s advice for fellow veterans? "Never forget where you came from, and always hold your head high. Being a leader in construction is similar to being a leader in the Marines—stay faithful to your team and push forward, no matter the challenges." We’re privileged to have Hector’s dedication and resilience on our team, and we’re thankful for all the veterans who bring their experience and strength to Cadence McShane every day. Stay tuned as we continue to honor more of our veteran employees throughout the month. #VeteransDay #CadenceMcShaneVeterans #MarineCorps #LeadershipInConstruction #VeteranStories
