There’s a lot happening in the world right now—uncertainty and anxiety feel like constants. In moments like these, I find it helpful to ground myself by focusing on the work that makes a difference. One project that stands out is Cadasta Foundation's collaboration with The International Land and Forest Tenure Facility. I've had the privilege of being part of this effort for some time, and I feel fortunate to work alongside such dedicated and talented colleagues. Together, we're supporting Tenure Facility in developing a GIS-based solution designed to efficiently manage, store, analyze, and visualize spatial data related to land title results, governance progress, and project footprints across the globe. Beyond building tools, we’re providing direct support to strengthen spatial data quality, protocols, and assurance—ensuring that Tenure Facility staff are well-equipped to manage and use geospatial data effectively. On a recent trip to Stockholm, it all seemed to come together. We saw our work become a useful tool—one that helps programme officers answer essential, practical questions about their project's impacts. A huge thank you to my colleagues and to our partners at The Tenure Facility. I’m excited to continue this journey, refining these tools and processes to make them even better. #GIS #LandRights #Cadasta #TenureFacility

Forests are more than carbon sinks or biodiversity hotspots—they are the home and heritage of millions of people around the world. From the tribal communities of India to the Indigenous youth of Indonesia, forest-dwelling peoples have long safeguarded these ecosystems through deep cultural ties and traditional knowledge. Yet, without secure land rights, their ability to steward these landscapes remains under constant threat. At Cadasta, we have seen firsthand how essential secure land and forest rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities are in protecting forests and combating the global climate crisis. When communities have legal recognition of their land, they not only invest in sustainable livelihoods but also lead transformative environmental restoration and conservation efforts. This International Day of Forests, we are spotlighting four inspiring examples of how land rights–backed by technology, training, and community leadership–are advancing forest protection and climate resilience. Millions of women worldwide confront a harsh reality where they risk losing their land unexpectedly. Women farmers, who have worked the land for generations, face losing their livelihoods when infrastructure projects disrupt their property rights. Widows are often ousted from their homes by family members after their spouses pass away. Additionally, illegal activities such as resource extraction by miners or loggers threaten the territories of Indigenous communities and their families. Your contribution can support these women by providing access to advanced mapping tools and training to certify and claim their land. This support ensures that women can secure their land rights, sustaining their families and communities.
