The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) is the nation's only pan-Asian children's advocacy organization. CACF's mission is to improve the health and well-being of Asian Pacific American children and families in New York City. CACF believes that children of all backgrounds should have an equal opportunity to grow up healthy and safe and should live in a society free from discrimination and prejudice. CACF challenges stereotypes of Asian Pacific Americans as a "model minority" and advocates on behalf of underserved families in our community, especially immigrants struggling with poverty and limited English skills. CACF promotes better policies, funding, and services for East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander children, youth, and families. CACF's work in the areas of Child Welfare, Education, Health, and Youth Services empowers: ? Youth to become the next generation of neighborhood leaders. ? Parents to take a more active role in their children's education. ? Service providers to implement quality children's programs. ? Policymakers to invest in services for children and families. CACF promotes equity and access through: ? Policy Advocacy: We advocate for improved policies, funding, and services for Asian Pacific American children and families by targeting elected and appointed officials. ? Youth Leadership: We empower Asian Pacific American youth to be their own advocates. ? Parent Education: We educate Asian Pacific American parents on their rights and responsibilities. ? Research: We conduct original, landmark research to identify needs facing Asian Pacific American families and to provide recommendations to address these needs. ? Capacity Building: We build the capacity of organizations to better serve Asian Pacific American children and families. ? Coalition Building: We bring together organizations to build a stronger pan-Asian voice in New York City policymaking.

The proposed education agenda in Project 2025 would deeply harm AAPI students and families across the United States. CACF’s Co-Executive Director Vanessa Leung joined our partners at APA VOICE at The Asian American Foundation’s 2024 Anti-Hate National Fall Convening last month to discuss the potential impact of Project 2025 on AAPI public school students and families, particularly those who are English Language Learners from immigrant or limited-English proficient backgrounds. CACF has been a co-leader of the New York City Council-funded Access Health NYC initiative since its founding over a decade ago. Thanks to the successful advocacy of CACF’s 18% and Growing campaign and others, Access Health NYC has supported community-based organizations across the five boroughs that provide vital health education, outreach, referrals & assistance to immigrant, limited English proficient, and other hard-to-reach populations since 2014. On Tuesday, we convened our second-ever Access Health Learning Circle, which gathered our awardees for a discussion and workshop on language inaccessibility in NYC and how we can work together as a coalition to best support limited English proficient clients with linguistically and culturally accessible care.
