Reflecting on my 23rd straight American Public Health Association Annual Meeting (!!!), I am humbled to have shared the stage with role models, research collaborators, and long-standing mentees. I am so fortunate to continue my career at California State University - East Bay, working on addressing preventable health disparities that affect my and other South Asian communities, and having the privilege to teach and mentor the most inspiring and committed students and trainees throughout The California State University system (including with the Health Professions Track of the California Pre-Doctoral Program), as well as in partnership with the South Asian Public Health Association (SAPHA), Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health, and the Asian American Research Center on Health. This conference reminded me of the resilient solidarity of the public health community throughout the U.S. and the importance of continuing to develop the next generation of diverse scholar-practitioner leaders who are passionate about health equity and social justice, and are equipped to take on existing and future challenges that come our way. I am confident that the future of our field is bright!

Reflecting on an incredible experience at the American Public Health Association 2024 Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota! This year I had the privilege to attend as a Sally Casanova Health Profession Track Scholar with inspiring mentors and peers from the California Pre-Doctoral Program?? Presenting my first abstract at APHA on research with the CSULB Center for Latino Community Health was a milestone moment for me. As a Latina, it means a lot to me to represent my community in such a significant space. I left feeling empowered to continue my journey in public health. ??? Now more than ever, it is important to unite to drive the change our world needs. Together, we can strive for health equity and build a better future for all. #RebuildingTrustInPublicHealth

Another successful presentation! Today I co-presented with Soua Xiong, Ph.D. at the NACADA 2024 Annual Conference on our study examining Hmong students’ satisfaction with academic advising. Given that this was my first National conference, this experience greatly reinforced the importance of highlighting the voices of Hmong students, who are historically understudied and underrepresented. It has been eye-opening to enter the larger academic advising landscape and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the diversity of this space. To end this post, I would like to thank the California Pre-Doctoral Program for making conference experience possible!
